Its stone walls and tall windows gave it an almost cathedral-like appearance, and inside, the smell of aged paper and ink filled the air.
Fatima and I wasted no time. We dove into the shelves, pulling out books about werewolves, local legends, and anything remotely connected to monsters. The hours ticked by, and the pile of books around us grew taller, but our frustration mounted.
“Nothing,” Fatima muttered, slamming a book shut. “There’s nothing about deformed humans or monsters. It’s like we’re chasing shadows.”
I rubbed my temples, exhaustion threatening to overwhelm me. “Maybe we’re looking in the wrong place. There has to be something—there’s always something.”
