He covered me with a blanket, kissed my forehead, and pulled out his phone.
“Marco is safe,” he said, his voice muffled as he spoke to his men. “We got him out. Take Elias to the compound. He's going to disappear.”
He hung up and walked back to me. He knelt in front of the sofa, taking my hands in his.
“It's over,” he said softly. “The Scorpions are gone. Elias is gone. We are safe.”
I looked at him, at the blood on his face, at the exhaustion in his eyes.
