Angie gets us out the gate as she replies with anger in her voice, “Don’t get me started on his irritating lifestyle. We just need to stay clear of him. Let me have your phone, we need to know how close she is” Angie collects my phone from me while I shut my heavy lids for a moment but snap them back open when I feel something drop on my shoulder. “I said wait...what’s with the sudden hurry?” He asks irritably, panting and gripping my shoulder tightly. “Back off, Hadrien. Beth isn’t one of those girls you screw around with, leave us alone and run along already. Don’t you know when you’re being a bother? Get a clue” Angie confronts him, swatting his grip off me as she speaks to the phone.

“How are you.” I looked at the three pieces on my screen. At the pointed questions and the sharpened implication and the coordinated timing of a Saturday morning designed to find me in my pyjamas before my defences were up. “I’m angry,” I said. He was quiet for a moment. “Good.” “Good.” “Better than the alternative.” His voice was even. “Anger means you’re still standing in it rather than under it.”

My temper spiked immediately. “I’m not a fu.cking gay to come into your room and fu.ck you,” I spat angrily. He didn’t react, didn’t flinch, didn’t even look offended. He just watched me with the same calm expression, like he knew something I didn’t, like he could see straight through the angry front I was putting up.

I screamed on top of my lungs hoping he heard me and Rarf angrily turned the call off. He turned to me and I knew I was toast. Anytime Rarf is angry, my body has to pay the price for his anger. Now that his little ego is torn apart, he will mend it back with the blood that spills from my body and that is just a fact that no one not even me can dismiss.
