The storm outside mirrored the one inside of him—relentless, unforgiving. He had done the right thing. Pushing her away was the only logical choice. Then why the hell did it feel like the biggest mistake of his life? He closed his eyes, exhaling sharply. Because the truth was— He wanted her. More than he had ever wanted anything. But men like him—men who had lost everything before—couldn’t afford to **want**. So, he did the only thing he knew how to do. He built another wall. One so high, even she wouldn’t be able to climb it.

I asked him, hoping that it would humiliate him. “Of course not.
