I stared at it for a while. Then I drank from it. It burned really Bad. But it burned less than the ache in my chest. I coughed. My eyes watered. I drank again. And again. And again. Till my head started to feel light. Till the world started spinning sideways. I laughed. Why was I laughing? "Mate?" I whispered to the air. No one answered. I got up. My legs were no longer mine. They moved weird, but somehow, I managed to walk.

I push past him. He takes one good look at the gold chain and sniffs it. “Out! Everybody out! Place is closed!” He yelled. People complain but they all move out. The door slams shut behind the last one. It gets quiet, except for the fire. I find a table in the corner. There are bottles everywhere. I grab one with dark liquor and pour some into a mug. It burned my chest so bad and made me cough violently , but I drink more, faster. Pour another. The room starts shifting, and my head felt like it was floating. I want to forget about the throne room, the king's anger, Mother's crying and the guards grabbing me.

I clawed my way back to consciousness through layers of dense fog. Each thought felt sticky, difficult to grasp, like trying to catch smoke with bare hands. My mouth tasted like metal and ashes, my tongue heavy and uncooperative. Light pressed against my closed eyelids, too bright, too insistent. Somewhere nearby, a machine beeped in steady rhythm, matching the throbbing in my temples. Athena stirred within me, a low, furious growl rumbling through our shared consciousness. ‘Drugged,’ she snarled, copper fur bristling with indignation. ‘Someone drugged us.’

He made a whole table of dishes I loved. For a moment, it felt like I had been pulled back into those first days after I transmigrated when he barely spoke to me and I filled the silence with constant chatter. We actually… talked this time. He poured each of us a glass of wine. It was sweet and mild, the kind of wine that barely gets anyone drunk. I loved it. But after only one glass, his face went completely wrong—flushed, unfocused, his breathing uneven. There was no universe where his tolerance was this low.
