What makes him compelling as a lead isn't that you root for him in a conventional sense, but that you're morbidly fascinated by the logic of his world. His loyalty, when given, is absolute and terrifying in its own right, because you know exactly what it entails. He's less a character you identify with and more a force of nature you observe, which is a bold choice for a protagonist.

Man, it's wild how much love Isaac gets, isn't it? I think a huge part of it is his voice actor, Yuki Kaji—he absolutely nails that terrifyingly sweet, unhinged tone. You get chills because the performance makes Isaac feel so genuinely joyful about the horrible things he does. That contrast is addictive.

He's also the perfect foil for Ray and the others. In a story about escaping trauma, he's the embodiment of a trauma that won't let go, which makes every scene he's in incredibly tense. You're never sure if he'll just monologue or suddenly snap and kill someone. That unpredictability, paired with his oddly charming philosophy about love and murder, creates a character you love to hate and hate to love. He's like a beautiful, poisonous flower in the garden of 'The Angels of Death'—you can't look away.

I've got to push back against the whole 'Isaac is just chaos for chaos' sake' reading. It's way more specific than that. He doesn't start conflicts so much as he violently reshapes the ones that are already there. His presence acts like throwing a wrench into a carefully balanced machine; the existing tensions between characters—the power struggles, the hidden loyalties, the moral compromises—all get accelerated and forced into the open. He'll overhear a secret and then bluntly announce it at the worst possible moment, or he'll target someone another character was secretly protecting, forcing their hand. The conflict was always simmering; Isaac just turns up the heat until it boils over.

What I find most interesting is how this makes him a perverse catalyst for development in other characters. They can't maintain their comfortable facades or half-measures with him around. They have to choose a side, reveal their true strength, or confront a flaw they've been ignoring. In that sense, his influence is less about the fights he starts personally and more about the brutal honesty he imposes on the story's ecosystem. The real fallout is watching everyone else scramble to adapt to the new, more dangerous world he's created simply by existing in it. It's exhausting and brilliant to read.
