Before I could process his words, his hand closed tightly around my waist, drawing me into his side. "...I'd like to introduce you to my girlfriend, Hester Winters." Jake barely acknowledged her, his attention stayed fixed on me and the woman noticed. Her smile faltered for the briefest moment before she recovered quickly. "Oh," she said, glancing between us. "Am I interrupting something?" She asked. "No," I answered immediately. "Yes," Jake said at the same time. I looked at him in disbelief. The woman raised a brow, clearly entertained now. Jake finally turned toward her. "Vanessa, this is Jessica." His voice sounded calm, but the intensity in his eyes remained dangerous. Vanessa smiled politely at me. "Nice to meet you."
