Afterward, he had sworn, "Alice, my kisses will only ever belong to you." The neon lights outside the window stung her eyes, but she forced the tears back. She just needed to hold on a little longer. This would all end very soon.

No more shadows. Just light. Endless. Ours.

Dawn light comes through the sanctum's single high window, small and square and positioned near the ceiling, and the light that falls through it is the clean, unmodified gold of actual morning, carrying none of the red tint that has been coloring everything since the eclipse. Lucian stands in the dust and the dawn light and the diminished glow of the hybrid power that remains, and breathes.

Alas, no matter how gently I tried, the doll was beyond repair. It was not until the next day, when Rebecca walked by my room, that I started to snap out of it. I picked myself up off the floor. I had someone clear out the room. Silently, I moved to the desk, my eyes landing on the dusty family portrait. There they were, Rebecca and Nash. Her smile was so bright that it hurt to look at. Outside, the sky was a menacing shade of gray. I set the photo on fire with a lighter, and I watched in silence as it turned to ash.

"Just order takeout. I've got something I need to take care of, so don't wait up." Then, he turned and left before I could say a word. That scene had me digging my nails into my palms, leaving deep, red marks. When I rummaged through the shelves for some microwave pasta meals, I stumbled across a well-hidden photo album, tucked in a cardboard sleeve. The moment I flipped it open, I froze. A handwritten caption was attached below each photo. "Peanut, one month old. "Peanut's first steps. "Peanut's first picnic."

A future no longer bound by darkness, but written entirely in light.

His eyes were tender and focused. He replied, "That's right. She's my star."

No matter what you call this power that watches over you - God, fate or something else - this power watches over you, loves you and wants your happiness, but also must be sure that you will not doubt it when the dark times come. Friends, let yourself be carried away by the power of love, never doubt it, and somewhere along the way you will feel the true happiness that only love can give you. It is love that will keep you in the power of the Light, protecting from the dirty claws of Darkness.

The lights got dim and soft music started to play. Dara stood at the corner and waited for Wade to come. “Want to dance?” a lad wearing a red mask on his eyes held his hands towards Dara. “No thank you!” Dara uttered, “I’m waiting for someone.” “You can dance with me for a while unless that someone comes.” Dara thought for a second and then agreed. The boy rested his hands on Dara’s waist and Dara held him from his shoulders. Dara felt uncomfortable but she still danced.
