I draw my knees up to my chest and lay down my head on them, holding back the tears I have already shed.
“Caterina,” Kai’s voice broke through the haze, but I refuse to look at him, knowing if I did, then I will gladly forgive him.
“Please, Caterina, look at me,” he pleads, and I feel my heart waver for just a moment. As I turn my head to meet his gaze, a solitary tear falls out of the side of my eye. His mouth is a thin line when our eyes meet, and he lifts his hand to cup my cheek.
