“Or stand out there and pretend you’re not scared of a microphone.” Kai’s jaw clenches. He steps in. The room smells like warm electronics and coffee that’s been reheated too many times. It smells like a man trying to outrun grief with work. Foam panels on the wall. A mic on a desk. A waveform on a laptop screen. Luca points at the screen. “That’s your storm.” Kai looks. Be ready in 10 minutes. Lara’s stomach flipped with nerves and excitement. She quickly dimmed the lights in her bedroom, lit a couple of candles, and changed into a sheer black babydoll lingerie set that barely covered anything. Her heart was racing when the video call request came through. She accepted. Kai’s face appeared on her screen. He was shirtless, sitting against the headboard of his bed, his tattooed chest and abs on full display. His dark eyes looked even more intense through the camera.

"Eden!" Kylian yelled scanning the crowd looking for her. Kylian's heart sank as he saw Eden's lifeless body lying on the ground, blood oozing out of her wounds. He fell on his knees beside her. "Eden" He yelled out holding her hands he couldn't feel a pulse. "Eden please" Kylian cried his tears streaming down his face as he held her in his arms. He couldn't believe that the love of his life, the one he had promised to protect with his life, was slipping away from him.

Evelyn's POV "I, Alpha Kyle Turner, reject you, Evelyn Sanders, as my mate." Alpha Kyle hoarse voice boomed in my ears making me freeze on my tracks, his voice laced with disgust. Crack! A cracking sound resounded inside my body and I felt as if a part of me was forcefully torn and taken away. My wolf howled in pain but there was nothing I could do about it. Tears flowed down my face as the pain became immeasurable, increasing with each second to the point I was unable to tolerate it. I could care less about the gazes on me. I was already used to it.

She could imagine how tiny her hands would be if placed on them. Her eyes moved away from his biceps and continued their journey down to his long legs. He stood at a height of about six feet and some inches. 'If I were to kiss him, I would have to stand on my toes, and he would still have to bend his head to meet my lips' she thought and bit her lips seductively. The man stared at her; he was angry and confused. He wore a black baggy trouser that matched his white singlet. “Hello?” he called in his deep masculine voice. Caitlyn was too lost, she thought the voice came from a distant place. Though, she loved how soothing the voice sounded.

"This is our future, Liam. Our chance to stand right at the epicenter of something huge.” An eyebrow arched, but he didn't get to say anything since I spotted Kai heading standing at a corner. As impassive as ever, and at his side a stunning young woman in an elegant black dress-no doubt another one of his mother's 'matches.' Poor thing. She seemed just as clueless as the rest. "Ah Kai," I said, smiling up at him as I approached him, though the glance he cast my way was anything but friendly. "Come, let's go say hi" I said, nudging Liam at the side and he nodded stiffly, his gaze still far away.

She listened quietly, her expression hovering somewhere between sympathy and amusement. “You know,” she said finally, “you might be overreacting a bit. He’s not a kid anymore, and Kaelin can’t be that bad.” I gave her a look. “You clearly haven’t met him.” She laughed and leaned back. “I’ve heard of him, actually. Lloyd never shuts up about the guy. It’s always ‘Kaelin this, Kaelin that.’ Apparently, Kaelin’s got the body of a Greek god or something, because Lloyd’s been working out nonstop to ‘get on his level.’ It’s driving me insane.”

That was the best description Laura could ever tell K about her father's physical appearance. K thought that was probably the reason why she loved listening to Cat Stevens' songs so much growing up. It provided her so much solace, and a feeling of belongingness, whenever she played his songs - especially his track Moonshadow. In her pre-teen years, she even kept on fooling herself that he was indeed her dad, and that he had to go and leave them because he's a superstar.
