I shifted on the couch. “She said you promised her there won’t be any more female clients… After the last one.”
His jaw tightened—just a flicker, but I caught it. He leaned forward, elbows on his knees, hands clasped. “Mia, I want to be clear. What you saw and what she said, it’s not what it sounded like.”

He rubbed his face with one hand, dragged it down over his mouth. “Lisa and I have been separated for almost three years. The divor
