“Hold it, Rick O’Connell. That corridor screams trap. Rover’s a prototype, yeah, but I’d rather he ends up skewered than your dumbass.”
Sean offered both hands, mock-pious. “Fine.”
Lizzi’s fingers danced. Rover’s feed flickered—the ground-level view of frescoes sliding by, the Laylon scanner layering depth onto the mesh.
“Clear so far,” she murmured. “Initiating second pass—denser lidar.”
Rover crawled past the second fresco. A metallic clank chased its wheels.
Jessica’s breath caught.
From the ceiling, two axes swept down in a clean, engineered X. Steel hissed. The robot atomized into sparks and torn housings; the monitor went black mid-scream.
