With a furious snarl, he lunged, his claws raking across my shoulder. Pain seared through me. My wolf roared in fury. Before he could attack again, I slammed into him with even greater force, driving him across the battlefield. Trees splintered around us as enormous trunks snapped like dry twigs. The deafening sounds of war surrounded us while screams, growls, and crashing bodies blended into complete madness. Lucian attacked again. But he wasn't fighting like an Alpha. He was fighting like a broken man. Each one of these strikes came with months of regret.

Isaac worked in his office until it was dark, and I sat with him in a comfortable silence. I desperately wanted to read his notebook on prophecy predictions, but he wouldn’t hand it over, instead suggesting I read up on lycan history, or something like that. “Why aren’t all these books common amongst werewolves?” I asked, after an hour or so of silence. “I mean, werewolves know hardly anything about lycans, other than they exist and they technically rule over us.”

I whisper, and Lucian looks over my face intently before giving me a slight nod. When the doctor comes back in with two timid-looking nurses, Lucian clears his throat. "Forgive me. Werewolves are extremely possessive of our mates, and our odd pairing is still hard for me. I did not mean to make you uncomfortable. When I saw you move her gown... I saw a male trying to look at my mate. Not a medical professional trying to do his job....and I apologize," Lucian says, and my mouth falls open. The nurses instantly relax, and the doctor smiles at the alien next to me.

I got into the best defensive stance I could muster as the wolves began to attack me. Piercing pain shot up my arms and legs from the bites of the rogues’ sharp teeth. A loud snarl echoed in the clearing making the rogues and myself look around. That was when I saw it. Red glowing eyes, razor sharp teeth, and a massive black wolf on two legs. I’d never seen a Lycan before but there was no mistaking who the Lycan was. It was the King. As soon as he took a step further into the clearing, his eyes met mine and in an instant I was met with darkness.

"Lucian came back to get Alana without us knowing." "This prints look too small to belong to a werewolf," Alpha Grayson said, bending down to examine the prints. "Werewolves have bigger prints. This one seems to belong to a normal wolf." "You mean a pack of wolves," I said, still clenching my fist. "Can't you see the paw prints of different sizes that are surrounding this one? They must belong to Lucian's werewolves. Lucian had planned all of this from the beginning." "There is no way we can affirm that," Alpha Grayson said. "Didn't you see what happened back there? The witches betrayed him too just like my vision said they would."

I got startled out of my thoughts when I heard a loud warning roar beside me. As I slightly turned my head to the sound, it's too late to dodge as my instinct screamed of danger. I found my unfortunate self, wide-eyed with disbelief, suddenly thrown back from the sheer power of it as my body smacked violently against an ancient, massive tree. "When I just said my vision is the sharpest?" I winced with pain. _________________ Lucian’s POV: It’s specially foggy tonight, though wolves have a keen vision it might still prove challenging to ordinary werewolves. If not for my sharp senses, it’s really a challenge to go through this unscathed.
