She walked back inside and slumped down into a wooden chair across from her mother.
Her mother was quietly sipping her tea, watching Hazel with a bright, entirely too knowing spark in her eyes.
"He's a very intense man," her mother noted quietly.
"You have no idea," Hazel muttered, pulling a plate of bacon toward her.
Her mother leaned forward, resting her elbows on the table. "You know, Hazel, I always thought Liam was a bit too weak for you. He never really looked at you. Not the way a man should look at a woman."
Hazel froze, her fork stopping halfway to her mouth. "Mom, please don't start."
