“N-no… Conrad, I’m sorry! I know I wronged you before. I will make it right! Please, spare my dad!”
He scrambled onto his knees before Conrad as the latter looked down at him. He seemed completely unmoved by the gesture.
“All you have to do is spare my father’s life,” Conrad said quietly.
He leaned close to Charlie’s ear.
“Do you know my greatest regret?
“Your mother died of lung cancer three years ago. She didn’t live to see this day. What a pity.”
Charlie slumped, utterly defeated.
His entourage exchanged uneasy glances, instinctively keeping their distance, cameras dropping to the ground.
