The hunt isn't coming. It's already here.

I bolted towards Magnus and he caught me in a warm embrace. The steady thump of his heartbeat ground me. It was more than his arms that settled the rage inside me. His scent soothed Skylar, and in the most calming way, it soothed me too. “Mama!” Aaliyah barked and the ground vibrated underneath our feet. The sound of footsteps rustling through the bushes made my ears prick up. Magnus looked down at me and he didn't need to say it, I knew those heavy footsteps came from hunters. Ten or more, all heavily armed from the way their feet dragged.

He couldn't even stand. Just when it looked like the ragdoll was going to beat him to death, it suddenly stopped and grabbed my hand. Then it used my fingers to lift the knife he had dropped and plunged it straight into his heart. The familiar system chime echoed. [Player Franklin Hanson has been eliminated.] My balance shot up by several hundred coins. My eyes sparkled. "Bunny, you're amazing! You even let me have the kill." The chat exploded. [Weren't these two supposed to be weak monsters? I left for a minute, and now they're so strong!]

Connor POV Finally, a decent hunt. When word got out, pretty much all the hunters wanted to go, as we hadn't had the thrill of the chase in over a month. This is purely due to this stupid competition, which was basically decided from the start. Still, no one could have predicted the attacks on this territory. We start working online with Nightstalker to tracking credit cards transaction, CCTV footage, and getting info from other hunters our target might have run into. It takes less than an hour to find him at a five-star resort. How predictable. I load up my weapons and get ready for the hunt.

“Hunters.” Then everything explodes into chaos.

"Keep going, Scarlett. We can't afford to let him slip away. We need to uncover the truth, no matter the cost." Her words fueled my resolve, propelling me forward as my legs pumped, pushing me to my limits. The pursuit intensified, our breaths coming in rapid bursts as we neared our prey. The man glanced over his shoulder, his fear now mingled with desperation. Suddenly, a figure appeared ahead, blocking the man's escape route. It was our loyal comrade, skillfully intercepting the suspect's path. The man skidded to a halt, his eyes darting around, searching for an alternate route.

I had everything I needed to hunt down my prey, five hours was mercy for me, I a damn certain I will catch up to him in a hour yet I might still want to play it off. The dense forest swallows the sound of my footsteps as I sprint towards him, he peeps once more to see me graveling towards him and he takes to his heels. Branches whipping against his skin, tearing his shirt off and leaving a trail behind. He dare not slow down, he knew the consequences of what would happen if I caught up to him. I come to a halt making slow steps towards him. It was exhilarating, after I had finished off John at Alicia home, I have been itching to have a real hunt.

I pushed my book back into my bag and covered it with as many papers as I could. I hurried to the hall and barely managed to make it inside, before the security guards locked the doors. Missing a hunt lottery was cause for 24 hours in jail and I had done that punishment once. It was more than enough for me to get the hint. I shot Timothy an angry glare and he chuckled. I rolled my eyes. What a prick. He knew what he was doing and he did that shit on purpose. I sat down in an aisle seat on the last row, hoping that when my name wasn’t called, I could escape quickly, before he could catch me again.

Tyler’s POV: The hunt was going better than expected. The forest, shrouded in twilight, was eerily silent except for the occasional crackle of leaves beneath our boots and the distant rustle of branches overhead. We had already taken down several animals, their lifeless forms marking a trail deeper into the woods. Yet, there was an unsettling weight in the air, an offbeat silence that I couldn’t ignore. My brothers and I moved in sync, our senses sharp, scanning for our next target.
