Dante gave me another one of those million-dollar smiles that should’ve been illegal and sauntered off toward his car. I was still frozen in place when Ace leaned in. “Smooth, Professor. Real smooth. You almost said your own name without choking.” My face went up in flames. “Shut up.” “Who knew he was going to invite you personally.” “He invited you,” I muttered. “And you,” he shot back. “Which means I’m your plus-one.” “Over my dead body.” We reached his car, a black Mustang that screamed playboy. Ace dangled his keys. “Need a ride?”

Jake piped, retrieving a bottle of water from the fridge. Ace and I shared a look. He had recently landed a contract—a hit on an MC prez who worked with deadly narcotics and had little to no respect toward women. It was another motorcycle club that hired Ace, one which felt that this prez was encroaching on their territory. Tonight he was going to leave so he could start doing some recon and I still hadn't decided whether or not I wanted to go with him. "Why, what's up?" Ace asked while carefully shrugging off the blazer and handing it to me.

“You need to tell me everything—now. Every deal, every name, every place he ever took you.” She met his gaze. “I will. But there’s something else you need to know.” He waited. “When Marco says he wants peace, what he means is he’s already got a plan for war.” That night, Ace returned with Jax. “What happened?” Nolan demanded. Ace tossed a phone onto the table. “We found this on Fang territory. Their whole camp is under new command. Marco is using them to move something big.” Jax added, “And he’s got more men coming in.”

Ace roars. The men behind Marcello step forward. They crack their knuckles. “Boss, shall we?” Marcello raises a hand. “Calm down, boys.” The couple at the table close by look in our direction and start to whisper. Ace’s red eyes remain on Marcello. His fists clench, revealing the veins. Marcello bites the fat cigar with his canines. “Oh, Ace. You don't have to get worked up. I come in peace.” Ace chuckles. “Peace? What business does the devil have with peace?”

says Marcus softly. As much as I would love to let these two hang out in the forest all day, I have to check in on things, especially the start of development on the expansion. With great reluctance, Zara gets up and Ace, along with her. They begin trotting back towards the packhouse keeping close, so their fur is always touching. Ace really is the most gorgeous wolf. “Oh, stop,” says Ace shyly, “You’re going to make me have a big head.” “She’s going to make you have a big something,” Marcus teases.

Instead, I cling my back to my seat. The partition in my limousine is pulled to keep my driver’s ears away. “Oh come on, you're still the tough guy? Prison destroyed you big time. I always sensed you're a great person outside of all the sufferings you’ve been through, but I doubt it now,” he complained. I didn't budge.

Vince came to stand beside her, hands in pockets, posture a soft bracket. “You all right?” he asked, quiet enough to belong to a kitchen table at midnight. She exhaled. The breath felt like surrender and claim both. “Yes.” Marco joined them, wiping rain from his brow with the back of his hand. “He had a Maretti mark,” he said. “Yeah,” she said.

Ace got his blue eyes from his mom and black hair from his dad; he was the perfect combination of the two. Seconds later, my parents came in carrying plates and drinks. After placing them on the table they took their seats next to each other beside Mr Romano. I was sitting at the end of the table, Mason was in between me and Ace who had his legs crossed on the other chair and his head resting against Mason's arm with his phone in his hands. He really didn't give a fuck as to where he was or that his parents were present. He just say what he wants, do what he wants and where he wants.
