“Will you be back in time to pick up Nolan?” she asked without looking up.
“Yes, we’ll get him from there,” I assured her.
Outside, Matt was leaning casually against his SUV. He’d changed into a baseball polo, still paired with those camo shorts, and for some reason, that combination worked far better than it should have. He opened the passenger door for me.
“Thanks,” I murmured as I climbed in.
We hit the road, and I made a point of keeping my eyes glued to the passing scenery. Matt must have noticed my deliberate avoidance because after a few minutes he asked, “So, are you and Alex… you know… a thing?”
