“She was a Beta’s mate,” Evander continued, watching her closely. “Unremarkable by most recorded measures.”
He paused slightly.
“Except for one thing.”
Betty didn’t speak.
She didn’t move
She was listening in a way that had nothing to do with sound and everything to do with comprehension.
“When she reached full maturity,” Evander said, “her wolf manifested what the records call a convergence signature.”
The term made the room feel colder.
“What?” Betty asked quietly.
