The Fourth Hokage surviving his encounter with Kurama is obviously the big one. But a lot of stories gloss over the fact that this isn't just a power fantasy fix-it—it completely rewires Naruto's entire childhood. Minato and Kushina being alive means no lonely kid living on ramen, no village-wide cold shoulder. It's interesting when authors explore the political fallout of that, like Danzo's faction getting sidelined early or how the Uchiha massacre might be avoided entirely with a Hokage who's actually present and competent. I read one where Minato, knowing about Obito, basically turns the ANBU into a personal search party and it causes a whole different kind of tension with the other villages who think Konoha is mobilizing for war.

Sometimes the time travel element is from an older Naruto or even Kakashi going back, which shifts the focus to Minato reacting to future knowledge rather than acting on it. Those can feel more like a mystery for Minato to solve, watching his student or son for clues about a disaster he's trying to prevent. The key events that change then are more about trust and preparation—the Nine-Tails attack might still happen, but Konoha is ready for it in a way they weren't originally.

Been binging time-travel fics lately and stumbled on a few where Minato gets zapped forward. There's a recurring bit where he meets Naruto as a teenager or young adult, and the real punch isn't the 'I'm your dad' reveal—it's the quiet horror of seeing the son you never got to raise already fully formed by a lifetime of loneliness. That gap between the proud Hokage he imagined and the knucklehead ninja reality is just brutal.

I keep thinking about 'Better Left Unsaid' by kyogre, though it's not strictly time travel. Minato's spirit gets a front-row seat to Naruto's life through the Nine-Tails seal. The dynamic is all about observation versus action; he's literally a ghost watching his kid struggle, unable to intervene. It's less 'exploring' and more 'witnessing,' which adds a layer of helplessness you don't always get in the physical reunion stories.
