I slept for a long time. The sun had set thrice by the time I was jolted fully awake by the piercing sound of my ringtone. It was Marcus. The moment I answered the call, he started berating me. The frown on Emily’s face deepened as she stared at the pictures mainly focusing on one in which Javan was with a woman, in the middle of a dance floor at a club that she wouldn’t fail to recognize anyway.

Emily was still smiling when the desk phone rang. Emily picked it up. “Ma, you have a delivery from Williams.” “Okay, send it in.”

My eyes are getting moist, and he looks concerned, but is too well trained to ask about it. I pull my defeated heart together and trug beside him towards the parked car. While he does his cursory sweep of the environment, I dig into my purse for my phone. I stared down at the phone in my hands, not saying a word. "Dee, y'know, if you can't speak to them, I can do it. I'll speak to them, no biggie." Emily said eagerly. I looked up to the side at her and smiled. She was really the sweetest person I'd ever met. I shook my head, and picked up the flyer from my side. "No, Em. I can do this. It's just a call." I assured her. I dialed the number on the bottom right corner of the flyer, put the phone on speaker, and waited as the phone rang.
