I caught myself on the letter 'G' in the word *"Death."* It was cold and sharp, but it held.

“I don’t have to show myself. You know me. You know me better than anyone. The truth is, I was the one who raised you. I was the one who made you into what you are. All you need to do is look… deep.” The whole street goes dark, bringing out the contrast of the dark eyes even more. I step back, and all of a sudden, the ground disappears. It becomes a perfect mirror of the darkening sky. I let out a scream, trying to run, but it feels like falling now. My feet can still touch something solid, but a force of gravity is yanking at me, making me feel like I’m getting absorbed into a sandpit. I stagger back, trying to get away. But the absence of movement in my feet makes me fall flat on my back.

Lysander’s hand was on her throat. "You were a useful tool," he whispered. "But the contract is up." "No," Vespera tried to scream. "No, I changed it! I fixed it!" I squeezed my thighs around him as tightly as I could, my knuckles turning white as I held onto him for dear life. I screwed my eyes shut as he flapped his wings, a scream tearing my throat as I felt the world plummet around me, my stomach dropping as I felt us fall. I asked casually, pointing to the pen holder on my desk. She stepped forward, eyebrows raised, scepticism thick in her eyes, but she complied, reaching out to hand me the pen. Just as her fingers brushed mine, I pretended to miss the grip. The pen slipped and clattered to the ground, bouncing slightly before coming to a rest. Emma let out a small, annoyed sigh but bent down to retrieve it. "Here," she said, holding it out again. This time, I made sure my grip was just loose enough to let it fall once more.

Camille stood on a tightrope. “You would like to make a suggestion?” the blond man asked, his speech pattern pure American frat boy charm. At her nod he gave a dismissive flick of his wrist to signal that she should continue. She beat out the spark of irritation that flared at this motion and cleared her throat; after all, her ego was a small price to pay if it meant she got what she wanted at the end of the day. “I’ve noticed that you’re very lucky,” she said, batting an eyelash and then mentally scolding herself for being a bit on the nose, but Andrej didn’t seem to notice this as he leaned forward, stapling his fingers and bring them to rest under his chin.

I voiced out. "And whose fault was that?" she said glaring at me. Your psychotic mind, I mumbled beneath my breath, just then she decided to drop one of her crutches, she tried to make it look like an accident but failed miserably. She's going to be the death of me, mumbled before adding a string of curse words to the statement. I hurried over to her and supported her falling figure by putting my hand around her waist leading her to the nearest table. I ignore how right it felt to place my hand around her waist or how she seemed to fit perfectly in my arms every time I carry her. I went to pick up the fallen crutch and made my way back to her.

The only thing that I knew was that we were outside of the room, our struggle with one another still very much heated at its peak and then, in a moment of wicked irony, gravity decided to join its forces in on our battle. We crashed into the banister, the force of our collision sending us falling downward. The world spun around me as I tumbled down the flight of stairs, my body jolting with pain at the impact on each of the several stairs. I clawed at the air, desperately reaching for something to hold on to and stop myself from falling any further than I already had, but my efforts at stopping my fall were in vain.

"Something's in the way." Standing up on my tippy toes, I pull myself up. I just need to swing my legs around. I don't want to land on my head. "Shit, grab her!" I'm out of time. Screaming, I lean over, and let myself fall.
