Kitty smiled inward.
Kitty took it out of the bag, the paper bag looked like the ones in a bookstore, but the cake looked homemade. The rectangular aluminum foil pan was as big as Kitty’s hand. Pieces of chopped strawberries sank on top of creamy frosting. The icing was slightly smudged on the cover since it rested on its side but was still enticing.
“Thanks, mom!”
“Glad you like it, dear,” the old lady said sadly.
Bianca was on the opposite end of the unit, back facing Kitty in front of the static television. She was busy looking at the hamster cage. Kitty went towards her, but Bianca didn’t turn.
