*EMILY* As I walked through the door of my apartment, a wave of overwhelming sadness crashed over me. The weight of my burden pressed heavily upon my shoulders, threatening to shatter the fragile facade of strength I had painstakingly constructed. Tears welled up in my eyes, blurring my vision as I stumbled towards the couch, my legs buckling beneath the weight of my sorrow.

A few minutes alone will give me a chance to scrape up my last surviving brain cells. “S-sure. Okay.” Cheeks pink, Sadie wobbles out of the pop-up bar. She doesn’t look back at me.

Emily pulls away and looks up at me, her bright smile slightly faltering when she realizes what it is that she has done. “I am so sorry,” she breathes out, “I don’t know what came over me.” “It’s okay,” I reassure her, “I…” I hesitate for a brief moment before opening my mouth once again, “you can do that whenever you want, Emily. It does not matter if you are happy or sad, I will always be here to hold you when you need it.”

I whisper. I close my eyes and take a deep breath, hold for ten seconds, then release. I did this until my heart calmed ddown. I felt like I needed that. I needed to do that. It helped me cope I think. I hear a wooden squeak. I turn and see Soul standing on the frame of the door with such a pained expression. His eyes glistened with tears until they fell down silently. But they didn't hold sorrow, or loss, they held sadness and longing. "Are you okay Soul?"

Normally not an emotional person it was weird that he could make her cry so easily but she knew it was the guilt of forgetting that one small detail that changed the course of hers and his life. “Sweetheart, it is nothing to get upset over.” He said as he wrapped his good arm around her and pulled her closer to him. He could feel the sobs that racked her tiny body. He felt more guilty for saying something, and it felt like he had cut his own heart out when he realized she was crying. “Honey, don’t. Please don’t cry.” “Mack, I thought I lost you.” She said softly. “Now you’re here, and you thought it was you. That hurts.”

I can slowly feel myself starting to fade and I hate it. Shouting and cheering bring me out of my daydream and I quickly realise that someone has found their mate causing a small smile to grace my face. It's always happy news when someone finds their mate, even if I don't know them, I wish them well. My sad smile quickly turns to a wince when something accidentally bumps into me causing my ribs to scream out in pain.

I bury my face in my hands and let the sobs come. The door swings open again. “You okay?”
