My eyes widened at the wall of shelves full of jars of numerous ingredients. “Have a seat and make yourself comfortable,” Hella said with a snicker. Making my way into her small living room I sat down on a velvet settee and waited for her to join me. Hella's joints popped as she sank beside me. “You have Phoenix blood and awakened it by being roasted I'm thinking,” she blurted with a toothy grin. Dumbfounded, I just stared at her.

We had become easy pickings for the human vermin we had ignored and were allowed to breed freely and grow. Now we were at their mercy, but they knew none. Phoenix took a step towards me. He placed his hand over his heart. “I’m not like them Morning. Not anymore. I know that you are people too. You have feelings. You have hopes and you have dreams. You fall in love and you build families. Killing you isn’t hunting, it’s murder. I may be a killer, but I’m not a murderer.” Phoenix had a deep look of conviction on his face. He looked like he had contemplated these very words many times before.

The next moment, there was a loud bang on the roof. “Hey, Uncle Pedro is here, I want to go flying!” Isabella ran out the back door. You see, after my rescue, Rebecca and Pedro found out that Pedro’s granddad was a Phoenix, there for he inherited the gene. It skipped his parents and, as Phoenix is immortal, they are looking for him, but till this day, they could not locate him. So, Rebecca helped Pedro with her magic to learn how to use his powers and how to fly. Jumping off roofs and trying everything, but that is another story.
