Declan caught the movement out of the corner of his eye and continued to bait Ryder, drawing his attention away from Lucia. "You can't just take her, Ryder. She's not your property. Lucia is her own person, and she's made it clear she wants nothing to do with you." Lucia's muscles ached as she shifted, her wolf sending Ryder flying off her body. The drug still clouded her senses, but she pushed through the haze, determined to fight her way out of this. Ryder shifted, and his wolf charged at her, jaws snapping. She snarled and danced out of his reach, circling him warily.

Lucia gasped, coming down from her high as sweat trickled down her skin. I gently placed her on my lap but it seemed she had other ideas as she got off and got down on her knees in front of me, her eyes intense on mine. Her eyes were dark with desire and my mouth hung open as I simply stared at her in awe. “Lucia? What are you doing?” I couldn’t help but ask. “I’m going to make you feel good.” She said in a voice so sultry and seductive that it almost brought me to my knees.

“Kael, you… me… The girl from earlier, the one I know as Lilia—she’s the cook’s daughter. How could I forget so much?” I collapsed into him, crying against his chest, the pain too heavy to carry. My memories were pieces—shattered, misplaced. But I remembered now. I remembered everything. Lucian didn’t speak. He simply kissed my tears away, one by one, in a slow, careful, and reverent manner. He understood. “I’m so sorry,” he whispered into my skin. “I should’ve died before I let them take you.” I looked up at him through watery eyes, and his gaze burned like the center of a storm.

I checked on Lucian, who was still asleep and no longer burning with fever. After brushing my teeth and washing my face, I left to buy ingredients for sopas. Luckily, there was a grocery store in the building, so I didn’t have to go far. In less than 30 minutes, I was back in Lucian’s condo. As I entered, I was met with his angry face. "Where have you been, Lyrica? Why did you leave without telling me?" Lucian’s booming voice startled me. "I… I’m sorry, Lucian. I just went downstairs to buy ingredients for the breakfast you asked for. You said you wanted sopas," I explained, my head bowed.

“He’s wrong. And he’ll see that soon enough.” I nodded slowly, breathing in through clenched teeth. Then I pulled away from him and walked to the window, staring out at the White Snow lands beyond the glass. Let it come, I thought. Let them think this is enough. Let them think Elena is untouchable. When the war comes, I’ll remind them all who I really am. Just then I heard a knock on the door. Soft and sharp. It creaked open, and Lucy stepped inside, her presence always deceptively soft. A silk robe, hair in perfect coils, but I knew better. That woman could slit a man’s throat and not spill a drop on her sleeves.

The words came at first slowly, her mind fogged with pain, but soon they spilled onto the parchment with clarity.

Her hands cupped my face gently. “You and Jodie will disagree and argue, maybe even drift apart for a bit of time. But if you dare cheat on her, I will castrate you myself and inform the world that you are no brother of mine.” My hand closed over Lucia’s hand. “I will give you the knife myself.” I may not know many things but I knew loyalty. Mum gave her life, trying to save us and the city she was loyal to. Lucia gives everything for South City. If I could not give everything to my wife, I might as well change my surname.

I snapped out of my senses and laughed with him, my voice so high and flirty, I barely believed it was mine. “Yeah, yeah. I'm Lucia. You must be Dylan Thomas. Oh wait, why did I say it like that? You're so famous, I'm sure the rats here at Serenity High even know who you are.”
