When her hockey star husband demands an open marriage with another team manager and then fires and publicly humiliates her, pregnant Helena Callahan loses her job, home, and unborn child in one brutal night. Waking in the hospital, she finds her estranged first love and former neighbor, bad-boy enforcer Jarrett Brooks, at her bedside. Rio had not gotten home when he contacted the private investigator, he didn’t have that patience and he felt time wasn’t on his side given the time the police had wasted assuring him of finding her while they did nothing.

Rio called out, but his tone was clipped and heavy with no patience. What the hell had the conversation devolved into, Gianna wondered. They’d been so open and candid with each other at first, and Gianna had truly thought they were making progress. But then all of the sudden Rio had gotten angry again, and then there’d been nothing but riddles in the end. If she was Rio’s? Did Rio have aspirations on being Mariposa’s leader? Gianna wanted to ask more. She was endlessly curious about the way the conversation had ended. But the urge to sleep was more overwhelming than it had ever been.

"Or you can come back right now,” she continues, “You'll be home in a few hours and then it will be easier to decide if you want to lock yourself in or... find someone." "Have you ever spent a rut alone? Do you know what it's like?" Rio asks after thinking about it for a while. "Of course not," she answers immediately with an arrogant scoff, Rio rolls his eyes hard, "I don't know what it's like, but I know you won’t die, you just have to be strong."

Rio dragged her without knowing pity. Rio made Aria sit on the chair; they were in the courtyard of the empty building. Rio asked one of his men to turn on the camera and record everything. "First, I want you to strip her naked, take off her clothes, pants, bra and panties.
