Courtney’s voice echoed faintly in my ear, a tether to my composure.
“It’s disheartening that you accuse me of things I haven’t done, Mr. Easton,” I replied, keeping my tone soft but firm. “If I knew you’d be like this, I might have reconsidered coming here.”
My expression was filled with calculated regret. This was just a performance. Showing vulnerability now would make him believe my innocence.
He studied me, jaw tight, muscles tense. Then, unexpectedly, he let out a dark, almost cruel laugh. “I am sorry for accusing you, Savannah. But... you understand, there are people spying, lurking. I can trust no one right now.”
