The altar’s broken shape loomed behind them, cracked stone glowing with unnatural pulses. I gasped. Sarah’s hand found mine. Daniel crouched nearby, silver blade drawn. John’s torch flickered far ahead just a flame swallowed by shadows. David lay before the altar, unconscious. His mark glowed a violent red. The ghosts’ hunger pulsed toward him. Their chant deepened. A voice whispered in my mind, cold as frost: “He remembers. I remember. You belong.” I froze. Sarah tugged me back. “We have to move.” But the ghosts didn’t wait,they surged forward.

“Hold him down!” Ghost sprang forward, smacking him with the gun, still, the name danced on his lips like a lifeline. The needle sank into his veins, slowly draining the strength from him. His hands fell on the mattress, his breathing teasing, as he fought against the drug. “... Laura,” he snuggled into the mattress, gradually going limp. Ghost grinned, brushing the hair from his face. “Salve, mortuus redux.” He should enjoy the rest of his time, because very soon, he’d be going to the land of the dead.

One of my new ghost friends is Ericka, who got here three weeks ago because of a motorbike accident, and Lucinda, a middle-aged woman who got a heart attack a month ago. "Really?" Clinton asked in surprise and examined my physical body closely, and Dylan tried to touch my left barefoot.

But fate wants to play with me. Andrew sold me to his business partner, and drug dealer, Max Willies. I thought that was the end of my life. But the arrival of another Pig saved the two pigs from ruin. From there they travelled back to tread the path of origin to return.
