So get the fuck out.” Samantha laughed, a cruel sound. “Don’t bother about the pregnancy anymore. I didn’t know you were poor now. I’ll find a rich man to take care of me and my baby. Goodbye, Axel.” She stormed out, leaving a silence heavy enough to choke on. Axel’s face was a portrait of shame. He turned to leave, but Dami’s voice stopped him. “You should be ashamed of yourself,” she said, her tone icy.

I’m guessing no one got any sleep, so when they passed out from exhaustion, they were out cold. Rain directs me to the hardware/grocery store a couple of blocks away. The mom got Sam's luggage and pulled it inside the house. Sam stepped into the house, expecting to find it the same messy way it was when he left but to his surprise the place looked better… almost like a home. “Your Dad and I refurbished the place.” The mom said, noticing how Sam was staring around the place. Sam nodded in response without saying anything. “Are you hungry?” The mom asked, “If you are I'll make something real quick. I didn't think you'd actually come so I didn't make any food.” “I'm good,” Sam said coldly, “You said you wanted to talk right? Let's talk then.”

I was running out of intestines to bend. "Duh. This took a lot of doing, so don't screw it up," Darcy said. She took my hand and led me down the street. Sam's house was one of those McMansion places that were built in the early aughts before the economy went down the tubes. The whole neighborhood was one big house next to the other till the scale got messed up and you thought it all looked normal. Like seeing a parking lot full of Hummers, a relic from another era, yet no less impressive.
