It was the sound of a crushed throat.
Sophia’s body jerked violently. Her eyes bulged, gray rat fur still clinging to the corner of her mouth, then her hand fell limp.
Lorenzo clutched his ruined eye, gasping for air. The remaining eye held no remorse, only the wild relief and madness of survival.
He shoved the corpse aside, dropped to his knees in the filthy water, and roared at the camera.
“I won! Water! Give me water!”
