Terrified of being hurt again, terrified of failing in a way I couldn’t undo. “I’m so scared, Stefan,” I said, my voice trembling. “I’m scared of everything. Of the future. Of us. Of me.” He pulled me close again, his warmth enveloping me, offering me comfort I didn’t even know I needed. “It’s okay to be scared,” he whispered. “But you don’t have to face it alone. I’m here.” I closed my eyes, trying to calm the frantic thoughts racing through my mind. Stefan’s words, his touch, they were the only things grounding me right now. The only things that made me feel like I wasn’t completely lost.

“You’re scaring me.” At her words, Dante froze, his eyes darkening, a flash of confusion crossing his face before it was replaced by something else—something cold, calculating. Slowly, he stepped back, his expression hardening as if he was fighting some inner battle. He ran a hand through his hair, letting out a breath as if to regain his composure.
