Seven X Six Novels & Stories

After returning home, I went straight to the basement without uttering a single word. When the last bit of light above my head disappeared, all I could see was darkness. According to what I'd read, a person could only be driven to the brink of death after going seven days without food or water. Thus, I hoped they would lock me up for seven days. That way, I should be able to bypass the system and finally die. Every day, I relied on the voices outside to determine the time. By the sixth day, I was already so weak from hunger that I could barely move.

"That witch isn't dead yet, but she's going to be soon! Now, more importantly, I've got news! Portville has heated up again, so it’ll probably be our turn soon. Just wait! Those idiots are still stocking up on those useless down jackets and thermal blankets, so let's just watch them die from heat when they can't even get a single ice cube, haha!" Charles laughed proudly, Iris looked vicious, while Kate and Arthur both wore twisted, sinister expressions.

When Cameron sees me beside Axle, he says, “What the fuck dude? Did you replace me?” I look up at him and say, “I thought you said you needed a partner? I’m not stealing someone else’s spot.” “It’s not stealing if I give it to you. Cam, you can play the next one. I think you’ll live if you sit out one game.” Cam grumbles something and then goes to stand at the side. “So obviously that’s Cam, and over there is Jameson and Ethan.” I wave at them and say, “Hello, I’m Six,” and Jameson says, “We know,” with a smile. Apparently my reputation precedes me.

Philip asked. Fennel sneered and said, “Those people are pretentious and think highly of themselves, but they can’t even conquer the sixth zone. Naturally, there’s no sixth person.” Philip’s heart sank. According to Fennel’s explanation, the door controlled by the Nonagon was divided into seven zones, each of which was unique. Moreover, the farther in, the more dangerous it was and the more unknowns there were.

“Weeks!” Carlotta shouted across the table at me. She was right, I had been here for nearly 6 weeks and so far, I didn’t seem to be any closer to finding out how to stop this plague. I thought it was a little unfair to expect me to just know, but Carlotta evidently thought otherwise.

I trailed off. "Ask her to repeat the question," Hayden suggested, and I smacked my forehead, wondering why I hadn't thought of that. "Can you repeat that?" I asked, and she rolled her eyes. "What's number seventy-seven on the Periodic Table of Elements?" she asked, and I pursed my lips, instantly forgetting. Dammit.

And like that, we were in front of my quarters at the east end of the long walkway. “Let’s get in,” he said. “Wow, a huge flat screen television, and is that a game console?” he asked, with a hint of excitement. “Yeah, it is a Playbox series R pro infinity edition” “What the heck is that!? What type of naming sense is that?” he replied, laughing hysterically. “Okay now, let’s get to class”. Then he said; “System, take us to the realm of infinity.”

Kaine was the only one who did not look surprised, and that bothered Mae more than it should have. “There are seven now,” Sethis said before anyone could ask. His voice was steady, but Mae could feel the strain beneath it. Lucien’s chains snapped into motion, tracing new patterns around the sphere as if his power could force the truth into shape. “There were six active stabilization signatures,” Lucien said. “A seventh cannot manifest without a new input.” Riven glanced toward Mae with careful worry, and even he knew better than to make a joke.

"Rosalia, I was wrong… Please come back." Just then, a wave carried a drifting bottle onto the beach. Inside was a yellowed piece of paper containing my neat handwriting. "Jared, by the time you read this, I will be gone for good. Not just gone, but never existed at all. The system gave me seven days. I could have fixed everything, but what you did was enough to make me give up. Farewell. I hope you and Melody find happiness."
