“Hey, Lila,” she whispered, brushing a thumb gently down her sister’s arm, “how would you feel if we started hanging out more? Just us?”
Lila turned, brows rising in suspicion. “You mean, like… on purpose?”
Brielle let out a soft, broken laugh. “Yeah. On purpose.”
Lila’s smile came fast, her nod faster. “I’d like that.”
And then, quiet. But not peaceful this time.
“She’s gonna die, isn’t she?” Lila asked suddenly.
