The hotel suite was quiet when I stepped inside. Not the kind of quiet that felt empty. It was the quiet of expensive places where every sound was softened by thick carpets and high ceilings. The lights were warm and low, and the large windows overlooked the glowing skyline of the city. For a moment I stood near the door and simply looked around. Everything about this life still felt unreal sometimes. The polished floors. The tall glass windows. The soft scent of expensive furniture and fresh flowers arranged carefully on the table.

Lina had kissed Derek goodbye and apologized to him for not being able to go home with him that night. Page's door was locked and Lina was on her bed, sitting with her legs folded whilst Page was laying on the bed in her nightdress, listening to Lina talk. Page had asked Lina how they knew she was on the beach and why they had all come together. She laid quietly as Lina began to vividly explain. She told Page that from the time she left her house to her home till the time she decided to go check up on her, she was apprehensive. Derek had paid her a surprise visit with an alluring bouquet of flowers that consisted of Mallows, Nemophila and Red carnations, all having their significant meanings

she asked as she cleared her throat. "Carnations mean admiration while the purple tulips mean deep love to a partner. That is, if you want us, but I'm not pressuring you." She chuckled loudly as her hand brushed through the flowers on the bouquet. "Why is there a fake white rose though?" she asked, now realizing that the flower was fake yet it looked real. "Flowers will bloom and flowers will wither. Nothing will last forever but that white rose, you can keep it forever. It's our new beginning, cherish it." She couldn't contain her feelings as she tried covering her mouth from making any noises.

“It’s a gift. Carnations are indeed my favourite and I absolutely love them…!” ***

The look on his face was calm and steady. I held the bunch of flowers closer to my heart, Gideon ripped them away and said with scorn, “ There are 5 flowers of romance here: Rose, for deep affection; Tulip, to declare your love and affection; Orchid, to show how beautiful you think she is; Lily, to signify innocence; and Carnation for admittance.” My heart dropped, I wasn't breathing. I stared keenly at Charles, waiting for his response. He laughed, and he said, “ Brother, are you scared?”

“And you got her red and white carnations.” I frown, not seeing the point. “And?” Yelena raises an eyebrow. “You do know red carnations symbolize deep love and admiration, right?” My lips part in surprise. “Deep love?” I scoff, more irritated than amused by her little revelation. “I didn’t choose them. You’re the one who insisted I send her flowers in the first place. What are you trying to get at?” She bursts into laughter, doubling over at the look on my face. My temper flares, the sharp edge of annoyance cutting through me.

I managed a soft nod and then she was gone like the wind, leaving me flushed and slightly dumbfounded. I blinked and stared down at the bag. Settling back on my chair, I dug my hand inside the bag without looking. A mix of anxiety and anticipation bubbled up inside me as I pulled out the content. My breath left me in a flurry, my lids fluttering rapidly as I stared at the gift in my hand. Carnations. My favourite flowers. I haven’t seen these in a while, let alone be gifted. And while the garden at the back of the mansion had a small space dedicated to them, they still took my breath away. But what pulled my heartstring was the colours.

If you let him see it, he couldn't figure it out. "This is a fragrant Saffron Silk. It can't be bought on the market now, but he knows the master who can make this kind of cloth. I want to invite him back." When it came to the clothes and the design, her face was always shining. "This kind of material is soft and thin. It can't wrinkle and is particularly drooping. It's very suitable for the summer clothes." When it came to her own realm, she was always able to talk about it with ease.
