"Adrian, what's going on?"
"Nothing," he said. "Just trying to make sure we have enough budget for the ice sculpture."
"We don't have an ice sculpture," I said. "Talk to me."
Adrian finally looked up and I saw exhaustion and something else in his eyes, guilt maybe.
"I'm scared we're going to fail," Adrian said quietly. "That Corso's going to win and the board is going to remove us and everything we've built is going to fall apart."
"That's not what you're actually scared of," I said, sitting on the edge of his desk. "What is it really?"
