Once they’re gone, it doesn’t take long for Raven to show up. She saunters into the dining room and says, “Wow, playing second fiddle to your brother, that’s gotta hurt.” My teeth grind together and I ask, “What do you want, Raven?” She walks over to me, her arms crossed as she looks straight ahead. I’ve learned this is how she does negotiations. She crosses her arms to accentuate her breasts, she looks away from you to pretend that she’s uninterested in the topic, and only once she has you in her clutches does she look at you with her piercing red eyes. They only appear during deals and when her… other side appears.

Raven tilted her head like she was listening to something none of us could hear. “Under everything,” she said. “Still trying to reconnect. Still waiting for me.” Marek’s expression tightened. “That’s not what it was,” he said carefully. Raven looked at him and this time there was no confusion in her eyes. “It is,” she said quietly. “It’s not a god. It’s not fate.” Her hand lifted slightly and silver fire gathered without hesitation. “It’s a containment system that turned into a parasite after the kingdom broke it by accident and kept feeding it fear for centuries.”

And as the past had taught them, treading cautiously was paramount, lest they lose their way. Raven, the enigma at the center of the twins' whirlwind of emotions, stood before Shade. As he poured out his heart, trying to bridge the gap of understanding, he closely observed her reactions. However, what he saw was not the solace or comprehension he so deeply yearned for. Instead, the transformation in Raven was undeniable and disconcerting. Her eyes, usually akin to pools of clear, vibrant water, now bore the appearance of a guarded fortress. The expressive windows to her soul, which previously reflected warmth and compassion, now mirrored restraint and caution.

Raven managed to get two hours of sleep before she was up again. The thought that these alphas were almost within her grasp, pushed sleep to the side. Once she gets all the names, she can make plans. How would she get this Bently guy to speak? She needed somehow to get into the wolf packs, but she was human and that would be impossible… Raven got up and walked to the room with the information. She decided she would read up on this possible culprit, maybe someone would jug her memory as she waited at the café for Oliver. She gathered up the manila folders, sticking them in her bag and walked to the Rose Café.

Raven rubbed her thumb over the back of my hand before turning to face me. Sensing my hesitation, she shuffled closer placing her free hand on the side of my face. My heart raced at the closeness my palms becoming sweaty as the nerves kicked in. Raven’s eyes roamed my face settling in my lips. Becoming nervous under her gaze I chewed my bottom lip only for Raven to purr. My body responded to her as tingles formed below.

The coven members decided to return to their homes, where they had not been for so long. Maddie was very tired of all the energy that had flowed through her and which she should have absorbed. Raven took her to their room early on. She dropped on the bed. ‘I still have to practice, to spread my magic evenly,’ she sighed and turned on her back, ‘I was so furious! Then it got so hard to keep control! ‘ ‘Yes,’ Raven agreed. She laughed. ‘What the hell? Mister I didn't use magic.‘ Raven rubbed his knuckles, which had scars of teeth.

*BANG* The door to the room flew open and I rushed forward to catch Ravens limp body before she hit the floor as the wolf carrying her dropped her into the room without so much as a word as he locked the door behind him, a trolley left in his place. I carried her to the bed and laid her down before examining the trolley. It looked like a weeks’ worth of food, water and other thing that are unmentionable considering the company I’m in. There would be no use for such items with Raven, no matter how much I wish that was different.
