“We’re working on a lead.” Shamrock grunted. “Good. My boys are posted outside. No one’s getting in or out without us knowing.” He hesitated, then added, “My youngest Finn, he’s an IT wiz. Scary good. If your hacker needs help, the kid can jump in.” I raised an eyebrow. “He’s that good?” Shamrock chuckled. “Aye. Reminds me of you, Ricci. Always had his nose in a computer instead of a gun.”

Watching our private moment unravel before those grey orbs he called eyes. Rick stopped walking. “Oh. Mr. Hardin. I didn’t see you there.” It was weird seeing Rick, a nearly forty-year-old man call this young guy mister. I would swear from his baby face that he was young. He was definitely younger than Rick and yet the man shrunk like he was talking to someone who held his life in the balance. “No. I didn’t think you did.” The guy left the corner he’d been occupying for the past ten minutes.

Rick asked as he walked into the house. Rick didn’t wait for her to invite him in, he just came in. Nothing knew there, Rick was at home in her house and she didn’t mind him being here. It had never been more than friends with the two of them. Always like brother and sister. It made her wonder if in her past life she had any siblings. Rick moved past her, and she closed the door, making sure it was locked. Walking behind Rick was always a nice view, but tonight he seemed to be in a hurry to find out what happened to her. “Nice shorts.” “They’re called clothes. You should try them sometime,” I shot back, walking past him to get coffee. But my skin prickled where his eyes had been, like he’d left fingerprints without even touching me. He chuckled—low, dark, dangerous. “That mouth’s gonna get you in trouble.” “It’s not my mouth I’m worried about,” I muttered under my breath. Jace Carter was exactly the kind of boy I spent my whole life avoiding. Tattooed arms, cocky smile, bedroom eyes that promised bad decisions. He was the kind of boy who didn’t do rules or regrets.

Rick typed a quick message on his phone. “We can hope.”

I said almost shouting. Hey, guys met Rick, my guy, my one and only, Rick is my best friend. An annoying bastard that cares about nothing but music. He is like the musician in school, Rick is of average height, he was fair, his dark hair was rough as always, he has a smile on his face that attracted girls, Rick wasn’t boy pretty, Rick didn’t even have a beautiful face but there was something about him that attracted people to him. “surprise.” He said with a smile on his face. “I kind of like it in here, comfy chairs, the silence,” Rick said.

A voice I haven't heard in a while. I turn looking at a really hot looking guy behind me. "I know you. You're in my bio class on Wednesdays aren't you?" I ask sarcastically making him smirk. God he has a strong jawline. His dark green eyes bore intensely into my soul. "That's me. Hi, I'm Rick. Short for Alarick." He says with a side smirk and gives the barista his card paying for my coffee. I smile and hang my face a little.

He had to be the center of attention and loved hearing words of admiration. Rick is laid back and has an easy presence about him. He laughs wholeheartedly and sincerity pours out of him. “Missy?” Adrian’s voice caused me to look up as I was laughing at a tacky dad joke Rick was sharing. “Hey,” I smiled at him, then looked down. There’s an adorable little girl with dark brown pigtails and a button nose clutching onto Adrian’s leg. She shyly hides her face against his thigh, then peaks over at me with big brown eyes.

Of silence after they were taken away. “Where,” I said. “Africa, Syria,” Rick said. “Ukraine. Anywhere that eats men faster than you can dress them in uniforms.” Elky stared at him. “Who’s running it.” Rick shook his head. “I never met him. I only heard a name.” “What name.” Rick looked at me again, and for a moment I saw something in his eyes that might have been regret. But it probably wasn’t. “John Smirnoff,” he said. “Or something close enough.”

Because of that, if they heard those grunting sound, it was none other than him. Adam heaved a long sigh like a tired parent taking care of a rebellious kid. “You don’t say. Anyway, where are you?” “I’m on my way. I’ll be there in a few minutes.” Ricky replied while slinging his bag which slipped off from his shoulders. Other than that, he also looked around the dark surrounding in search for his destination. Ricky heard a shuffling sound from the end of the line before hearing Adam saying something to Taylor. Then he heard Taylor chirping happily before he heard the sound of a door closing.
