Neither did anyone else. One night, late into the evening, Eva sat alone in the study. Her laptop screen glowed in the dark room. She was tired, but focused, typing away. Then something weird happened. A tiny flicker ran across her screen. It was fast; just for a second. A weird shape, like scrambled pixels, flashed and vanished. Most people wouldn’t have noticed. But Eva did. Her fingers paused over the keyboard. She blinked. Then she grabbed her phone and called Izzy.

That made me respect her, more than anyone else. Eva was a petite girl who had lost her father due to cancer, leaving her with younger siblings who didn't even remember their father and a mother who struggled with financial matters. Somehow, though, Eva always managed to keep smiling. She was my senior, but she refused to be called ‘senior.’ She could cry tears of joy just because one of her big crushes noticed her at a concert or at a fan meeting event, and yet she managed to get into the prestigious Beverly University Business School despite coming from a modest family.
