Valentine’s Day “Did I pass the application review?” I asked into the phone, a small smile appearing on my face, I was so confident and happy, ready to rejoice. “Ms. Valentina Chandler, we thank you for applying to our company, we genuinely appreciate your effort and interest, however, we regret to inform you that we are unable to proceed with your application.” I felt my heart sink, that wasn’t the information I was hoping to hear. “We appreciate your interest and cooperation, and we look forward to seeing you sometime in the future.”

Before the scolding comes to an end the atypically peaceful day, I step forward and hold out the bouquet towards him. “For you!” I say hurriedly, and he looks at me in disbelief at my lame attempt to escape a scolding. Valentin holds the flowers in one hand and picks up a bloody card with the other. He opens it and reads the contents, and I freeze, because I wonder who it's from and I'm scared of what's written there. “I love you and I won't let you run away from the feeling out of fear” Valentin reads the sentence out loud, on purpose, attracting the attention of the curious. “I didn't know that what you felt for me was love, miss.”

Would it be a letter of encouragement? I didn't know, but I was about to find out. As we walked into my house, I went straight to the drawer where I had kept the letter. I pulled it out, and my heart raced as I opened it. The letter was short, but it was powerful. Tristan had written about how much he loved me, and how proud he was of me. He had written about how he knew that I would be okay, and how he knew that I would find love again. But the last sentence was the one that caught my attention. "Don't forget to live, Valerie. Don't forget to love again."

I picked up the item and saw that it was a letter directed to me. "Hmm, weird." It looked pretty old with a date in front, neatly written in Valerie's handwriting. "Pttf!
