He then takes off running to finish the red hair thorn in his back.

“You will be mine eventually, human.” Hearing him call me “human” feels strange when it's not my vampire doing that. He gives me a menacing smile that sends a shiver down my spine. It is a smile of promise and victory. This time I don't have the courage to look away from him. His smile stiffens, suspended in time, but after a fleeting moment, the vampire makes the next move and vanishes into the wind. I blink at the window, waiting for him to come back with an attack.
