"I'll give you more money, Dan. State your price. I'll give you anything, just find Maya. Please." Dan Crowdy, a man in his mid-fifties but dressed in Jean trousers and a T-shirt which had an "I love NYC" inscription on it, paired with sneakers he looked more youthful and it was evident that he had aged well. He blinked, gaping at Xavier in surprise, the man in front of him had gone from raging volcanic anger to soft helpless pleas in just some seconds. He knew just how much his services were and how wealthy the Salvadors were. The price was not the problem, the problem was it seemed like Xavier's fiancée had disappeared into thin air.

Xavier replied, his voice icily calm and composed, almost like he was used to her tantrums, therefore he wasn't moved at all. “How can you say that baby? after everything we've been through, how can you?” I heard Bianca say, sounding like a rejected child. “Look, Bianca, listen and listen good, I am not interested in whatever this is anymore cos I’m darn sure it doesn't count as a relationship anymore. I'll send my driver to pick the rest of your things from my loft and get them across to you and I'd very much appreciate it if you keep me blocked permanently and I'll keep the same energy” Xavier said keeping his voice level-headed. Suddenly there was a loud splash.

The man on the ground shook, his lips trembled as he struggled to meet Xavier’s eyes. “Just say the first words that comes to your head,” Xavier coaxed with mock gentleness and patience…he was about to slit the man’s throat if he doesn’t hear anything reasonable in the next ten seconds. Ten— “Boss!” Xavier’s eyes narrowed, and he turned around to look at the man who had interrupted his thoughts. It was Stanley. The man was as big as a building and ruthless when need be but yet he was the softest out of all of them, Xavier preferred the sucker to Monty though because at least he spoke more than three words in a day.

It was as if I was a bird meant to be caged forever, with no way out. “Maybe we should—” I was saying, but I cut myself off when I saw Cindy looking behind me, so I turned around to catch a glimpse of what had stunned her. “That man…” she whispered, her breathing low, and I was also shocked, because the person was Xavier. He looked so handsome, clad in denim, giving him that irresistible, dangerous charm. What was Xavier doing here? “That’s my husband’s—” “That’s Mateo Batista, a ruthless underground boss that the police have been chasing for years,” Cindy exclaimed, and my words trailed off.

But she realized it was affectionate because, despite their teasing, they took care of her. Xavier was a friend of Sebastian’s from university and had the darkest, chocolatiest skin Celine had ever seen. He was tall, athletic, and so good-looking it made her ovaries twinge. Like all of Sebastian’s friends, he was fabulously wealthy. His family was from Sudan and the biggest cellular phone distributor in Africa and the Middle East. Celine adored him. He was polite and charming and called her Ukhti, which meant “my sister.” Xavier was a giant-sized sweetheart and the fussy mother-hen of the group who kept making her drink water. “No more water, please,” Celine whined.

“You would be dying for a good cause, “ he gripped my hand tighter, pulling me closer. “If Nikolas finds out what you’re doing, I will kill you myself.” He let me go, and I instinctively clutched my wrist in pain. He got up from the table after tucking the document I gave him inside the jacket of his coat. “Go on, Antonio. I would like to talk to Viola about women's business.” He left with a huff, leaving me with Mother. “Guess who I saw at the Cartier store the other day?” She asked. Without waiting me to answer, she did it for me, “Aurora Mancini.”

I can’t skip it. By the time I make it to the training ground, everyone’s already gathered. The chatter dies down as Luna Serena steps forward, her presence commanding. She scans the crowd, her usual calm and authoritative expression firmly in place. “Alright, today’s going to be… fun,” she begins, a sly smile tugging at the corners of her lips. The word ‘fun’ sounds like a threat. “I’ve brought in someone special for you all—a combat master.” Excited whispers ripple through the group until she steps aside, revealing a small, unassuming woman with a name tag that reads "Coach Morgan." She’s shorter than anyone here—barely over five feet—with wiry arms and a steely glint in her eye.
