Marcus's POV

I forced my mind to stay on the pictures she displayed on her screen. She needed my advice not me lusting over what it feels like to have her scent fill my lungs. She smelled forbidden, and I couldn't bring myself to stop wanting to sniff more.

"What do you think of this?" she asked, her voice low as she pointed to a picture of a couple sitting; the man had his hands wrapped around the woman, covering bits that shouldn't be seen by others.

  • After the Divorce    Chapter 52: Morning After the Truth

Marcus's POV Her words had become a vortex, but I had played a more damning role. I didn't shut her down, I played on her conscience, used my fears to harness her pain. I should let myself smile, and should be happy that I have ended this. But the truth still stood, she felt it, felt the little things that I felt. That was what made it feel strong, too hard to let go. It was easier to know that I had been the one with the thoughts, easier to fight everything, but now… My mind wandered back to the cute pyjama set she had been wearing, while she shared her feelings, she had been true and I was hiding in a mask, thinking of ways that I could kiss her, claim her before she could take her next breath. And now, knowing that she feels some things that I feel… I should be ecstatic, but I couldn't think about it. I couldn't let myself think about it. Was she crying? Was she hurt over what I had said? One person had to be logical, one person had to think, I was the one that had to think.

A possessive hold, that shows he owns her. Innocent, but my mind had switched out the couple and replaced them with Sophia and me recreating the picture. "Uh…" I cleared my throat, trying to fight back the image that wouldn't leave me. "This is nice…" "You think? You don't think it is too explicit for you?" Her tone dripped with worry as she looked at me. "No, it is perfect, capturing their vulnerability," I whispered. "He is her strength and she is the softness he needs, she defines him, he reforms her." She smiled

  • After the Divorce    Chapter 49: Midnight Confessions

Sophia's POV It has been two days since the accident. Two days since Marcus took care of me. It shouldn't have meant anything, but he had stayed away from work, just to be sure I was fine. When I was five, I had fallen off a trampoline, my mother had barely made a fuss. In fact, she didn't even look like she cared that I had fallen, she was busy on her phone, laughing with her friends. But Marcus, he had been there, he had picked me up, his large hands held me close to his chest as he made sure that I was safe. That I was fine. Heat crept up my cheeks when I remembered how his eyes had scanned my form, just as the towel had slipped. The way his eyes had darkened as if he couldn't find himself getting away from these thoughts. My body trembled at the feel, and I huffed, turning around to pull the duvet over me. But nothing could change my mind from the thought that was slowly creeping through my mind, nothing could stop the image that burned in my mind. I had seen it in his eyes, a

  • After the Divorce    Chapter 48: A Matter Of Boundaries

Marcus's POV"Thank you, I will look into it." I clicked the phone off, turning my attention back to Sophia, thankfully, she was well covered now."I should get you to the hospital," I whispered, trying to clear my mind of my thoughts. She was clearly in pain, and yet for some reason I couldn't get myself to take my mind out of the gutter. She smiled, a pain-filled smile, "I promise I am okay; I am more embarrassed than in pain." She chuckled, waving her hand before her."Embarrassed?" I cocked my brows. She shrugged, "Well, it is not every day that you see someone make a complete fool of themselves in the bathroom," she tried to make light of the situation.I nodded, forcing my mind to be here, in the present not stuck in the sick twisted fantasy that I was in. She was in pain, and needed my help. She didn't want me ogling her like some sick human. I moved closer to where she was, ignoring the red hue that stained her cheeks, "Believe me, bathroom accidents are one of the high-risk k

  • After the Divorce    Chapter 47: Too Close to Home

Sophia's POVI was laying claim to someone I shouldn't. The more I thought about it, the angrier it made me. I couldn't get the image of him smiling as my mother latched onto him off my mind. They were going on a date, an action that would wipe away the little things we had done.He wasn't mine to begin with, but there was nothing that I could do to change the raging anger that was nestled deep in my chest. He should have said no, that was logical…. "You sound stupid," I grumbled, slamming my fist hard against the pillow. No, I sounded crazy. Marcus didn't see me as anything other than his wife's daughter, and yet I was stuck in some imagination that shouldn't even suffice. In between the tossing and turning, I heard it — the front door, opening slowly, careful, like he didn't want to wake anyone. No heels clicking behind him. No giggling.Just him.So it hadn't gone as planned.I don't know why that eased something in my chest, but I finally forced myself to sleep. I wasn't going to
