Naila

The next morning, I sat across from Toby at the breakfast table while he watched me eat, It was almost unnerving.

Every bite I took seemed to earn his silent approval.

When I finally finished the omelet he had made, he gave a small nod before sliding the glass of juice closer to me.

"Drink this too."

There was no room for argument in his voice so I did not bother to argue with him.

Despite everything, despite my fear, it felt surprisingly comforting to have someone taking care of me.

NailaThe next morning, I sat across from Toby at the breakfast table while he watched me eat, It was almost unnerving.Every bite I took seemed to earn his silent approval. When I finally finished the omelet he had made, he gave a small nod before sliding the glass of juice closer to me."Drink this too."There was no room for argument in his voice so I did not bother to argue with him. Despite everything, despite my fear, it felt surprisingly comforting to have someone taking care of me.Toby was attentive and protective.Always making sure I had eaten, rested, or taken my medication but he also felt distant as though an invisible wall stood between us.I couldn't tell whether he was simply trying not to overwhelm me or if this was how we had always been together. The thought unsettled me.Absentmindedly, I caught my bottom lip between my teeth.Surely I hadn't agreed to marry a man who treated me like a polite guest. There had to have been more between us.Hadn't there? But then a

TobyI slumped back in my chair and dragged a hand through my hair.My gaze settled on the stack of phone messages lying on my desk. One was from my brother, Theron and another from Piers, I shifted uncomfortably.I had already avoided them longer than I should have.By now they had received my messages and were undoubtedly demanding answers. How was I supposed to explain any of this? How was I supposed to tell them that the woman I'd believed had betrayed us, thewoman responsible for costing us millions was now living under my roof. Pregnant with my child. And that I intended to take her back to Greece with me.I let out a frustrated breath before reaching for the phone.I dialed Theron's number and he answered almost immediately."How did the groundbreaking ceremony go?" I asked in Greek."Finally."Theron's dry voice carried through the line."I was beginning to think I'd have to fly to New York and force the answers out of you myself."I sighed, "I deserve that.""Hold on."I hea

Naila. Two days later, I sat nervously in a wheelchair, my fingers gripping the blanket the nurse had tucked over my lap.Toby stood beside me, listening carefully as the nurse explained my discharge instructions. I absentmindedly smoothed the wrinkles from the maternity top one of the nurses had kindly found for me, my hand lingering over the gentle curve of my stomach.Everyone at the hospital had been so kind and so patient. The thought of leaving their care to step into a life I couldn't remember filled me with quiet dread. When the nurse finished speaking, Toby thanked her before taking hold of the wheelchair handles.Without a word, he pushed me down the hallway toward the hospital entrance. The moment the automatic doors slid open, bright sunlight flooded my vision.I blinked against the glare. A sleek black limousine waited just outside. Before I could fully take it in, Toby was lifting me effortlessly out of the wheelchair. One arm supported my back while the other slipped b

TobyI stood in the dimly lit hospital room, watching Naila sleep as a dull ache throbbed behind my temples as I studied her peaceful face. Her chest rose and fell with each shallow breath, but even in sleep, a faint frown creased her forehead. She wasn't resting peacefully. She was still carrying the weight of whatever nightmare she had survived.Almost without thinking, I stepped closer and brushed my fingertips across her forehead, smoothing away the crease between her brows. She was still beautiful even now sleeping in that hospital bed. Her raven curls spilled across the white pillow in soft, tangled waves. They were longer than I remembered. Gone was the shorter halo of curls that used to bounce around her face whenever she laughed.Whenever she smiled, her skin had lost its healthy glow, replaced by a heartbreaking paleness. But I knew that would return with time and proper care. Then I remembered her eyes, the fear I had seen in those brilliant blue eyes haunted me.Once upon

NailaI fought my way through the thick fog clouding my mind.A soft protest escaped my lips as my eyes fluttered open. I didn't want to wake up.Sleep was easier and safer. In the darkness, I didn't have to remember that my life was nothing but an empty void. The only thing I knew was my name.Naila.I searched desperately for something more, maybe a face, a memory, a voice anything. But every time I reached for the answers, they slipped through my fingers like smoke. My past stretched before me like a barren wasteland empty and lost. Empty. With a weary sigh, I turned my head on the pillow, hoping to drift back into oblivion. Before I could close my eyes again, a large, warm hand wrapped gently around mine as fear shot through me.My heart lurched violently before I remembered where I was, the hospital.I was safe but still instinct took over.I jerked my hand away as my breathing turned quick and uneven."You mustn't go back to sleep yet, my love"His voice was deep and warm but

Toby"Her physical condition is stable," the doctor informed me. "But it's her emotional state that concerns me."I fought to keep my impatience under control. The moment I had arrived at the hospital, I had demanded answers. The staff had refused to tell me anything until I had identified myself as Naila's fiancé. It had been the fastest way to get past the endless questions and into the room where decisions were being made. I'd immediately arranged for her to be transferred to a private suite and insisted that the best specialists examine her.Now all I wanted was to see her.Instead, I was forced to listen to the doctor's report."But she hasn't been seriously hurt," I said. The doctor looked at me calmly."I didn't say that. I said her physical injuries aren't severe." I clenched my jaw."Then stop speaking in circles and tell me what I need to know."He studied me for a long moment before setting his clipboard on the desk."Miss Jameson has endured a tremendous trauma," he said q

TobyThree months later.Silence filled the penthouse, the kind of silence that should have brought peace.Instead, it pressed in on me heavy, suffocating me.I stood by the floor to ceiling windows, a glass of untouched whiskey in my hand, my gaze fixed on the city below. Naila.“Mistress?” I repeated the word. The word didn’t belong to me. It felt dirty, heavy and wrong.Girlfriend, lover, the woman he was seeing were some of the words I had imagined he would use to describe me, but I was wrong. Those were the terms I had clung to in my mind, shaping them into som
