((Zara Lang))

It was Friday morning, and I was still in the same spot.

I sat in the passenger seat of Danny's Jeep, my eyes fixed on the towering headquarters of White Wolf Holdings.

Danny let out a long sigh.

“You're about to burn a hole through that building, Z,” he said sarcastically.

I blinked. Danny and I had been watching the company for three days now. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Everything operated just like any other major corporation.

“Are you sure this company is connected to Reins Eiser?” I murmured.

“If you're asking me, my answer is I don't know. I'm only here because this was your idea, remember?”

Danny started grumbling again. All he'd told me was that every victim had some kind of connection to Double W.

I was the one who jumped to the conclusion that they had to be involved, just like Eiser.

“Zara, I know I'm your subordinate, but acting on nothing but intuition isn't exactly how we do things.”

I knew that.

The truth was, I just couldn't let go of my frustration over failing to catch Eiser.

I had been so close. I almost had him. But because of one careless mistake, he slipped away and tossed me aside like I was nothing. This case had become an obsession. No matter what it took, I was going to bring Reins Eiser down.

I let out a heavy sigh.

“I need to get inside and find out if there's anything useful,” I said, pointing at the high-rise building.

Danny exhaled in resignation.

“You're going to do it whether I stop you or not. Fine. Let me get something for you.”

He climbed out of the Jeep and rummaged through the trunk before pulling out a black duffel bag. Carrying it back to the front seat, he unzipped it.

“Camera glasses." He handed me a pair of thin-framed glasses. "These can record videos without anyone getting suspicious. Just blink twice to activate the camera.”

I took them and slipped them on.

Danny wasn't finished. He pulled out an ordinary-looking pen and a tiny earpiece.

“This is a recorder,” he said, holding up the pen before handing me the earpiece. “Wear this too. I'll be monitoring you from a distance.”

A grin spread across my face.

“You actually prepared all this? I'm impressed.”

“I learned my lesson after what happened last time. You disappeared from the bar without a word, then called me from the hotel. Z, you know how dangerous that was.”

The worry in his voice was unmistakable. For a moment, he sounded like an overprotective father.

Danny shot me a warning look.

“Don't do anything stupid again.”

A mischievous smile tugged at my lips.

“Got it, Daddy.”

He nodded.

“You'd better mean it.”

After putting on all the equipment Danny had given me, I got out of the Jeep in a narrow alley not far from White Wolf Holdings and headed toward the building.

When I glanced back, Danny had already moved the Jeep closer. He gave me a nod from behind the steering wheel.

Taking a steadying breath, I walked inside.

My first stop was the company lobby.

I settled onto one of the sofas, picked up a random magazine from a nearby rack, and pretended to read while quietly observing every corner of the room.

Everything looked perfectly normal.

Until someone stepped out of the elevator.

Reins Eiser.

My eyes widened in shock.

I hadn't even seen him enter the building. Danny and I had been staking this place out for three days.

So the question was…

How did he get in?

“I'm not imagining this, am I, Z?” Danny's voice came through my earpiece.

“No. You're seeing exactly what I'm seeing, Dan. That's Reins Eiser.”

“I'm going after him.”

“Z, don't do anything reckless!”

Danny's warning echoed through the earpiece, but this time I barely heard him.

I fell into step behind Eiser.

He wasn't alone.

Two men walked beside him. One looked slightly older, while the other was someone I recognized immediately—Reins Eiser's personal assistant, Reynald Tucker. I met him at the bar that night.

I tried to remember who the older man was.

Then it hit me.

Lucas Stone.

The leader of Double W.

Oh my God... they're really connected?

  • Catch me, Mr. Eiser   Chapter #10

((Zara Lang))The abandoned warehouse in Kirell reeked of rusted metal. Dust coated every surface, making it feel like the perfect place to dump a body.I was already crouching beside the corpse, examining every inch of a wanted fugitive. According to the forensic team's report, his name was Markov, a Russian drug kingpin."Cause of death?" I asked one of the forensic investigators. The man removed his latex gloves before answering, "We can't determine it yet."I raised an eyebrow."No stab wounds or gunshot wounds?" I asked again. He shook his head."What about blunt force trauma? Any fractures?""None. His bones are intact. There are no signs of struggle on his hands or beneath his fingernails."I paused to think."What if he was strangled?" I suggested, considering another possibility."There are no bruises on his neck. His hyoid bone appears intact as well, but we'll need to confirm that during the autopsy."After hearing the forensic report, I shifted my gaze to Markov's face. Hi

((Reins Eiser))I had no idea why I asked that question.Something about her still didn't sit right with me. I couldn't shake the feeling that she didn't belong in this bar. Yet after checking her profile, everything matched perfectly. Her photo, her personal information, even her home address.I'd already ordered Reynald to investigate her. He found nothing suspicious.Just the truth.Arabella Baker, known as Bella. Twenty-four years old. Born in Greyford. Currently living in a shared house on the outskirts of Arven City."Why were you looking for me, Mr. Eiser?" she asked softly, her voice drawing closer.Without hesitation, she sat beside me. One of her hands slowly reached toward me."Don't touch me."My warning stopped her immediately. She obediently withdrew her hand before picking up the whiskey bottle instead. She poured another drink into my glass.So... she was trying to get me drunk again, just like yesterday. Not happening.I placed the glass back on the table without taki

((Reins Eiser))One thing I hated about Lucas Stone was how effortlessly he managed to calm me down. Still, I couldn't deny that he was exceptionally good at running the company."Every order has been carried out exactly as instructed, Mr. Eiser," he said, offering me a firm handshake.I accepted it. White Wolf Holdings was the perfect company for this operation."Make sure everything is spotless," I said in a low, measured voice. "Don’t make a mistake."Lucas gave a respectful nod.The meeting ended quickly. As always, Reynald escorted me to the private exit. That was when I saw her. The woman. The hostess from the nightclub I frequented. She actually thought a pair of glasses was enough to keep me from recognizing her.Who the hell was she?She even knew about my connection to White Wolf Holdings. Now I was even more curious about who had sent her.I let her follow me, for now.Reynald opened the car door for me, but it seemed he'd noticed her presence as well."We're being followed

((Zara Lang))What else am I supposed to do?That question had been circling in my head for the past thirty minutes. It was infuriating. I was still angry.Failure wasn't anything new to me when it came to missions. But for some reason, this failure stung far more than the others. Eiser had gotten under my skin like no one else.I jabbed the elevator button harder than necessary, as if taking out my frustration on it. My blood was still boiling. Just thirty minutes ago, a devastatingly handsome man looked like he wanted me more than anything. Then that same man threw me away.God.I growled inwardly.I had been so close to getting Eiser to let his guard down. Just a little longer, and I could have started digging for information about where he kept the evidence of all his crimes.I was also convinced he was behind the string of serial killings that had dominated the news lately. Every victim had one thing in common—they were all connected to Eiser. There was the city's biggest drug kin

  • Catch me, Mr. Eiser   Chapter #5

(Zara Lang)There was a long silence between Eiser and me.I froze when he suddenly asked in his hoarse voice, “Tell me who sent you!”I saw his jaw tighten, and for a moment, I thought Eiser was going to do something. My heart pounded violently. I immediately became alert.Eiser straightened his body, walked to the side of the room, grabbed his clothes, and put them on.I was still stunned. What was this?Nothing happened?Or was he just letting me breathe for a moment before finally destroying me?I let out a heavy sigh.I should not have let him go to the bathroom earlier. I should have acted quickly without giving him time to regain his senses.I guessed he had soaked himself with cold water in the bathroom to wash away the effects of the alcohol. I regretted how foolish I had been about alcohol.I knew for certain that Eiser was now trying to regain control of himself so he would not make a mistake. I admitted it—he had won this round. He had even accurately judged me and figured
