I ran through the front doors of the Williams estate before the car fully stopped.

The house was enormous, white marble and glass, the kind of home that appeared in magazines. I grew up here. I took my first steps on these floors. But today I could not see any of it. I could only see the hallway leading to my father’s room.

“Where is he?” I grabbed the arm of the nearest staff member.

“The master bedroom, Miss Williams. The doctor is with him.”

I took the stairs two at a time, Anthony behind me. When I pushed open the bedroom door, my father was sitting up in bed with an oxygen tube in his nose, arguing with a doctor.

“I told you I am fine. Get that thing off my face.”

“Father.” My voice cracked.

Benjamin Williams turned his head and saw me. His face changed. The stubbornness melted away, and his eyes, my eyes, the same brown, went soft and full.

“There she is,” he whispered. “My girl.”

I crossed the room and fell into his arms. He smelled like cedar and old books and home. His hand patted my back, strong despite the medical equipment surrounding him.

“I am here,” I said into his shoulder. “I am home. I am sorry it took so long.”

“Three years too long.” He pulled back and held my face in both hands, studying me. His expression darkened. “You are too thin. And those circles under your eyes... that boy starved you.”

“He did not starve me.”

“He starved your spirit. That is worse.” Benjamin released my face and pointed a firm finger at me. “No more. You promised me. Three years, and then you come home. You kept your word. Now keep the rest of it.”

I nodded. “I will.”

Anthony leaned against the doorframe. “Before the family reunion makes me weep, can someone tell me what the doctor said?”

The doctor, a thin man with nervous hands, cleared his throat. “Mr. Williams experienced a mild cardiac episode this morning. His condition is stable, but he needs rest and reduced stress. No major decisions, no heated conversations, no overexertion for at least four weeks.”

Benjamin waved a hand. “I have been running a company for forty years. A little chest pain is not going to stop me.”

“It will stop you,” I said firmly. “Because I am taking over. Starting now.”

The room went still.

Benjamin looked at me with something between pride and surprise. “You are sure? I planned to give you time to settle in. The board meeting is not until next month.”

“Move it up. I have had three years of rest.” The words tasted bitter because they were not true. Three years of suffering, not resting. But I did not say that. “I know this company, Father. I studied every report you sent me. I reviewed every quarterly filing. I am ready.”

Anthony grinned from the doorway. “I told you she would say that.”

Benjamin laughed, then winced and pressed a hand to his chest. “Fine. Fine. But you will need to be introduced to the board. And to the public. No one outside this family knows that the Williams heir exists.”

“Then let us tell them.”

“There is a charity gala in two weeks. Every major company in London will be represented.” Benjamin’s eyes sharpened despite his condition. “That is where we announce you.”

“Perfect.”

Anthony pushed off the doorframe and walked toward me. “In the meantime, I will bring you up to speed on current operations. There is... something you should know about one of our acquisition targets.”

“Which one?”

He hesitated, glancing at our father.

“Tell her,” Benjamin said.

Anthony looked at me. “Valentine Industries. Richard’s company. It has been losing money for six months straight. Their innovation pipeline dried up. Their biggest client dropped them last quarter. We own thirty percent of their debt. If we call it in, they fold within thirty days.”

I stood very still.

“I did not arrange this,” Benjamin added quietly. “The market did. His company was propped up by a consultant who suddenly vanished six months ago. Around the same time you stopped feeding him ideas, I assume.”

My throat felt tight. I turned away, walked to the window, and looked out at the garden below. Roses and hedgerows and stone paths I used to run along as a child.

“What do you want to do?” Anthony asked behind me.

“Nothing. Not yet.” I pressed my fingers against the glass. “The gala comes first. After that, I will decide.”

They accepted this answer. Anthony squeezed my shoulder and left. Benjamin closed his eyes to rest. And I stayed at the window, watching the clouds gather.

My phone buzzed. The old phone. The one connected to my life as Richard’s wife.

His name flashed on the screen.

I stared at it. The phone vibrated again and again, his name pulsing like a heartbeat.

I did not answer. And I did not turn it off either. I just watched it ring until it stopped, and then I set it on the windowsill and walked away.

(Richard’s POV)I did not sleep that night.By seven in the morning, I was at the Valentine Industries headquarters. The office was empty; it was Sunday. I sat at my desk with Evelyn’s sketchbook open in front of me and pulled up every project file from the past three years. One by one, I compared them. The sketchbook designs matched the final project files perfectly. But the project files listed Tonia as the lead designer. Her name was on every single one.I called my assistant, Victor, who answered with the groggy irritation of a man woken on his day off.“Victor, I need the original submission records for Project Aurora. Who sent the initial files?”“Sir, it is Sunday.”“I am aware. The records, Victor. Now.”He grumbled but complied. Twenty minutes later, my inbox pinged.I opened the file. The original submission came from an encrypted email under the alias “V. Sterling.” No personal details. No phone number. No address. Just a portfolio of work so brilliant that I had hired the

(Richard's POV)I stood in the middle of the ballroom like a man who had been shot and had not yet realized he was bleeding.Evelyn Williams. My wife. My quiet, invisible, obedient wife was the heir to the largest corporation in Britain.People moved around me, laughing, talking, clinking glasses. The music played on. The world continued spinning as if nothing had changed. But everything had changed. Everything.I excused myself from the gala early. Tonia followed me to the car, her heels clicking fast on the pavement."Richard, you cannot let this rattle you. So she has money. So what? It does not change what she is.""What she is?" I turned on her so suddenly that she stumbled back a step. "What she is? She is the heir to a fifty-billion-pound company, Tonia. She was my wife for three years and I did not know.""Because she lied to you! She tricked you!" Tonia's voice was high, frantic. "She is manipulative, Richard. Why else would she hide something like that unless she was playing

Evelyn’s POV Two weeks passed like water.I ate proper meals. I slept full nights. I read company reports until my eyes ached, and I walked the halls of Williams Global headquarters with Anthony beside me, learning every floor, every department, every face. The woman in the mirror began to change. Color returned to my cheeks. My hair grew shinier. I held my shoulders back instead of hunching them forward like I was trying to disappear. I was becoming myself again, or maybe becoming the person I never had the chance to be.And tonight was the night the world would meet her.Mirabel arrived at five o'clock with three garment bags and a case full of makeup."I have waited three years for this moment," she said, unzipping the first bag to reveal a deep emerald gown. "You are going to walk into that room and every person there is going to choke on their champagne.""I do not want anyone choking.""I want them to choke. Specifically the ones with the last name Valentine." She held the dre

  • HE DIVORCED THE RICHEST WOMAN ALIVE   Chapter 2: THE COURTHOUSE

The courthouse smelled like old paper and floor polish.I arrived at eight forty-five, wearing a simple dress and no makeup. My reflection in the glass doors looked thin and pale, and for a moment I did not recognize myself. Three years of barely eating, barely sleeping, and barely existing had carved me down to something fragile. That was going to change.I sat on a wooden bench outside the registrar’s office and folded my hands in my lap. My fingers felt strange without the ring. Lighter. Freer. At nine fifteen, Richard walked in.He wore a charcoal suit that fit him like it was stitched onto his body. His jaw was tight, his eyes cold, and he moved through the corridor like a man being forced to waste his time. When he saw me on the bench, he did not greet me. He simply stood in front of me and looked down.“You actually came,” he said.“You sound surprised.”“I assumed you would change your mind overnight.” He adjusted his cuff. “People say things they do not mean when they are emo

Evelyn's POV “Here comes the beauty with a brain…with standing ovation, join me to welcome this elegant and gorgeous woman. Who has an outstanding skill that no one can match”. The gala host exclaimed. The woman walking up to the stage was wearing my smile, accepting my award, and holding my husband's hand.I sat on the edge of our empty bed, watching the live stream on my phone. The company gala glittered with champagne and chandeliers, and at the center of it all stood Tonia, her red dress catching the light as Richard placed a crystal trophy in her hands."For her extraordinary vision on Project Aurora," Richard said into the microphone, his voice smooth and certain. "Tonia has single-handedly redefined what Valentine Industries can achieve."The audience clapped. Tonia pressed a hand to her chest like she could not believe her own brilliance. Richard smiled at her…A real smile. The kind he had never once given me in three years. My stomach turned, not from jealousy. From the trut
