Chapter 1

"What is this rubbish you've placed in front of me!" Davey Hawthorne's voice erupted harshly, his eyes blazing with fury that could not be controlled at that moment.

Suzanne, with lips parted in a frantic bid to defend herself, quickly stood up from the dinning chair, her eyes searching for the "rubbish" her husband had just described. But she couldn't see any. All she saw were the innocent bowls of soup, steak and pasta on the table. She lifted her gaze at him, wondering what he was talking about.

"It's...your dinner, Davey. What do you mean?"

"What do I mean?" Davey scoffed. He picked up one of the red garnished steaks with a fork, and threw them her way, "did you even taste this!"

Gasping sharply, Suzanne dodged before the items could meet her. The fork landed on the ground with a soft sound, and alarmed, she turned to look at Davey.

"I get it that you don't want me cooking your meals in this house, but this is way too much! You could have hurt me." Suzanne panted.

Laughing mockingly, Davey got up from his chair, adjusted his suit, and turned away. "It's good to hear you say that," he turned to face her with a smile, "I'm deeply happy that you are that much smart. It's been eight months now, Suzanne. Eight months of a marriage that is completely a facade. Don't you think it's time to end this?"

Suzanne placed one hand on her chest, trying to stable her panting chest. Why hadn't she listened to the rumors that Davey's heart was a rock that couldn't be broken? Why hadn't she listened when she was told that the young billionaire was still in love with his ex?

She thought she could win him over with her innocence. She'd hoped that she could replace his ex, but that was far from happening. In fact, Davey's hostility was getting worst every single day.

"Clarrisa is back, and we are getting married," Davey announced, shattering what was left of Suzanne's heart, he continued, "I'm not going to be too unreasonable with you, and leave you with nothing. You can have the resort at the Dawton Villa after divorce."

"And...and you think your grandfather will be pleased with this?" Suzanne didn't mean to stoop so low and desperate by mentioning Arlan Hawthorne's name, but she needed to exhaust all the necessary information to make Davey snap out of his plans.

Arlan, the founder of the Hawthorne enterprise has been the only one who treated Suzanne like a human in the family. In fact, her marriage to Davey had been possible because of him.

"Oh, Suzanne. Why are you so shameless? Is there no pride left in you? How could you try to use my grandfather as your escape plan? That man merely pitied you for being the brilliant daughter of one of the cleaners. Why are you so daft?"

As soon as Davey said those words, the tears Suzanne had been fighting to keep back came rushing down her cheeks. She could remember vividly about three years ago when Mr. Arlan Hawthorne had first seen her bringing food to her mother while she was cleaning the floors of the hallways at the company.

He must have heard her telling her mother about how brilliantly she'd made all her papers with an "A". Mr. Arlan had taken a liking to her ever since, and even made it mandatory for his grandson to take her as a wife if he wanted to receive the special 30 percent of the inheritance he had set aside for him ever since he was a kid.

With little or no choice of his own, Davey had given in just to get hold of the special inheritance. His mother had been furious, even too furious to partake in the wedding activities.

"You...you can't divorce me without Mr. Arlan's consent. He... definitely will not let you." Suzanne stuttered.

Davey threw his head backwards, and laughed out loud, thrusting his hands into his pockets. With few strides of his long legs, Davey moved closer to Suzanne, stopped in front of her, and stared straight into her blue green eyes.

"Seems you haven't heard the news yet." He muttered into her face.

Suzanne gazed up at him, and blinked away her tears. "What news?"

"My grandfather is down with stroke. Well, it's not your fault that you haven't heard. It's a top secret that can't be let out to the public yet."

"Oh my God," Suzanne's lips quivered. If the man was really down with stroke, then, truly, she was done for. He was her only supporter. Every other person in the family hated her with passion.

"Clear off these trashes on the table, and probably start clearing off your things as well," Davey muttered calmly, turned, and started to head to the staircase.

"Wait," Suzanne called out, trying not to sound as desperate as she looked. No, she wouldn't let him discard her this way. No, there should be something she could do. Even if she would not be able to have a place in his heart, there had to be something she could do to make him think twice about his decision. Yes, all she needed was time.

Davey turned to look at her, waited to hear what she had to say.

"Two months!" She blurted out.

Davey raised one thick eyebrow, wondering what she was talking about. "Two months for what?"

"To delay the divorce. Let me remain your wife for two months. Just two months, that's all I ask." Suzanne spoke softly, her eyes filled with the pain she wished would vamish.

Davey stood there, looking at her speechlessly. After several minutes of silence, he walked back to her, his eyes mirroring the confusion he felt as that moment.

He scanned Suzanne's face for a long while, as if trying to see through her hidden agenda. What was she hiding?

"What sort of a demand is that? Why the hell would you want the divorce to be delayed for two months? What are you hoping to do within those few days?" Davey queried.

Suzanne took in a few breaths, trying to steady herself. She looked straight into Davey's eyes, and for the first time in eight months since their marriage, she saw something she'd been too blind to see all these while.

Hatred. Davey did not only love her, there was a deep rooted hatred inside him somewhere. And it left Suzanne wondering how she ended up falling for someone who had absolutely no feelings for her.

"All my time with you have been nothing but miserable with me constantly trying to make you see me...so you could at least love me even if it's just a little. Now, I get it that will never happen. But all I ask is two months of your time. I think after all I've been through in the hands of your mother, I should be allowed this much. Don't you think so?"

Davey breathed in, looking away. He gave what Suzanne had said a critical thought, and decided it would cause him no harm to delay the divorce. He had just talk to Clarissa about it.

"Fine. Two months," his eyes turned sharp and piercing as he added, "and after two months, you will forever leave my sight." Davey replied before finally taking the stairs.

"Two months, my love. Two months to get this feelings over with. Can...I do it?" She whispered.

Chapter 114 At school the next day, the cafeteria was a cacophony of clattering trays, metallic screeching, and the overlapping drone of hundreds of students seeking respite from their morning classes. At the center of this social ecosystem sat Daisy, anchored at the prime circular table by the window just exactly where she loved sitting down during breaks. She sat with a rigid, practiced elegance, her posture projecting an aura of untouchable authority. Her laughter, punctuating a lively exchange with her friends, was light and melodic, yet it carried the sharp, rehearsed quality of someone who knew exactly how she was being perceived. The atmosphere shifted abruptly, the air growing heavy and static. A shadow fell across the table, fracturing the light. Hannah stood there, backed by her loyal but visibly anxious friend, Gloria. Hannah’s face was a study in controlled agitation; her jaw was set, and her knuckles were white where she gripped the strap of her bag. “Daisy,” Hanna

Chapter 113 "So, tell me, my love!" Blair exclaimed, her voice vibrating with unhidden excitement. She fluttered toward him, draped her arm at the back of the chai. "How was your day at school? I’ve been dying to hear how my favorite boy is doing. Tell me everything. Hm?" Jayson didn’t even look up at first. When he finally shifted his gaze, his face was a mask of cold indifference. He stared at her, his eyes tracing the elaborate, out-of-place attire she wore. "If you really wanted to know what had been going on in my life, you would have been here all this time," Jayson said, his voice flat. "Instead, you’re suddenly appearing on my doorstep. What are you doing here, Mom? And—honestly—why are you dressed like you’re attending a royal gala?" Blair’s expression soured instantly, her lips pulling into an indignant pout. "That is no way to talk to your mother, Jayson. Honestly, that was remarkably rude. You don't have to sound so ride. I'm honestly sad that we have to live apart

Chapter 112The moment the front door creaked open, Blair was on her feet, a radiant, maternal glow lighting up her features. As Jayson stepped into the foyer with Daisy trailing behind him, Blair’s face ignited with overwhelming affection."Look at my big boy!" Blair exclaimed, her voice thick with excitement as she rushed forward.Jayson froze, his stride faltering mid-step. The surprise was etched clearly onto his face, his brows arching toward his hairline as he blinked, seemingly struggling to reconcile the setting of the house with his mother’s sudden apparition. He had no idea she was going to be visiting. Behind him, Daisy didn't share his shock. Instead, her eyes narrowed, tracing a slow, predatory line from the crown of Blair’s head to the hem of her short, form-fitting dress. The look was a masterclass in condescension, it was a flick of the eyes that dismissed Blair as if she were a tawdry ornament rather than a guest."Mom?" Jayson managed, his voice dropping into a tent

Chapter 111The peace of the city street seemed to shiver under the weight of the impending storm. Suzanne’s shoes hammered against the pavement, each step a calculated strike of authority. She had blocked the Dark Stones burial van mid-transit, a move that had sent shockwaves through the local underworld. She didn't come alone; behind her, a group of hardened, armed soldiers moved in perfect, their black tactical gear blending into the gloomy afternoon. They carried the weight of their purpose in the stoic, dangerous set of their jaws. The atmosphere was thick, vibrating with the bustling activity of the city—muffled car horns, the distant thrum of heavy machinery, and the hushed, terrified gasps of onlookers who scrambled to clear the path of the impending danger.Suzanne stopped ten paces from the van. Her face was a canvas of pure rage. Her eyes, usually calculated and cool, burned with a predatory fire, and her jaw was tightened so severely that the muscles pulsed beneath her sk

Chapter 110The fluorescent lights of the office hummed with a sound that felt, to Suzanne, like a physical prodding against her temple. Last night, after Daisy had left in anger, she'd cried until Michael walked into the room to console her. She regretted what she did, but Michael had told her that Daisy headed some discipline. This morning, she decided to go to the office rather than staying home and thinking about how to investigate Jessica's sudden death. She walked through the glass double doors at 8:00 AM, and the silence she expected was replaced by a show of panic. The front desk was abandoned. A printer was rhythmically spitting out error codes in a high-pitched, frantic beep. Three junior associates were standing in the hallway, looking frantic, surrounded by a pile of legal files that seemed to have no destination. Then, the chaos took shape."! She didn’t break her stride; her boots clicked rhythmically and aggressively against the hardwood as she lunged for the front door, her hand already reaching for the brass handle."Daisy! You’re finally here!"Gracie’s chirpy voice sliced through the heavy tension, forcing Daisy to anchor her feet to the floor. She turned slowly, her gaze lingering on her stepsister with a cold, unreadable mask. Gracie was obviously excited to see her, but it was the opposite for Daisy. "What on earth happened, Daisy?" Jayson asked, rising to his feet and planting his hands firmly on his hips, his tone laced with exasperation. "Don't tell me you’ve had another fallout with your mother. Seriously? When is this going to stop? I really need to know."Daisy ignored the judgment, her focus shifting entirely to Jayson. "I need to leave, Jayson. Take me home. Now.""No,
