I knew exactly what Kennedy was doing, and I had been counting on it from the very beginning. Every glance she threw Daniel’s way, every deliberate smile, every carefully timed gesture was part of a game she understood well. I did not stop her. Instead, I made sure to support her openly and without hesitation.

While Judy was still sitting stiffly at the table, I spoke up calmly. “Since Kennedy is here to work,” I said, “she can start by handling Ryker’s daily drop-offs and pick-ups.”
