LOGINLiora’s POV
As soon as I said, "You." Selene's eyes widened.
"You...know him?"
Selene continued to dart her eyes from me directly to Darius.
A little chuckle left my lips, accompanied by a dismissive gesture, and sputtered, "I thought I was wrong, thinking I saw Mr. Darius Knight in person. The Darius Knight?”
Within a second, Darius’s lips curved out in a smile. " In flesh and blood," he chuckled.
The totally oblivious, Selene wore a wide smile: "Meet Darius, the man I'm going to marry!" Taking my hand, she gave it a squeeze, looking down at our held hands as she moved them hesitantly toward Darius. "This here is Darius. My sister, Liora."
Something about the word 'sister' pierced through my heart, and I almost choked.
Darius put his hand out for a handshake, but I didn’t notice till Selene gave me a gentle nudge.
“Hello…I’m Liora,” I smiled sheepishly as I took his hand. The contact sent a jolt through me.
"I'm thrilled Selene finally found you," Darius smiled broadly. "She's needed you for so long. Always nice to know you're finally alive."
"Yes, life is so much simpler," I blurted out with the most mischievous, least truthful smile.
Selene beamed, her eyes full of laughter as she led us to the dining table. I took my seat while Selene sat next to Darius. "Liora, you will be my bridesmaid, won't you. I am sorry I have to ask you like this, but I need you at my side-tomorrow. Please.."
I looked at her with my fork held high in the air. "I... I am not so sure how to go about this. I have never been a bridesmaid before. I am not someone familiar with—" pointing around , "—this sort of stuff."
Selene reached over and held my hand. "Don't worry about that. All I want is for my sister to be with me. Right? Please?"
As for the words, they did indeed provide solace completely for me. There were probably few instances throughout my childhood where I wished I was a bridesmaid. I chuckled, half-amused. "All right, then. If you're certain things will go fine."
She grinned. "You won't mess up. I promise."
While Selene continued talking, Darius acted as a mere silent observer while I struggled to get rid of the intrusive thoughts in my head. The mate pull warred with my guilt, making every glance torture.
I tried to eat but the secret I carried inside of me made that hard. I forced the food into my mouth, forced myself to chew and swallow, but every mouthful turned to dust because there was simply so much noise in my head.
Midway through our lunch, Darius's phone rang, a frown was on his face and he picked up and took a few steps away. He came back and spoke after he apologized for the sudden call, "I have a meeting that I must go to. I'll be back for dinner."
“But..” Selene pouted, as he placed a kiss on her lips, silencing the rest of her words.
Darius looked at me and smiled again. “Pleasure to meet you, Liora.”
I turned to him but quickly put my head down. "The player is all mine, Bye,"
Selene accompanied him to the door. I glared down at my salad while the two walked away.
"Seriously, universe," I mumbled. "I mean, out of countless guys, you had to make it him?“
At that instance, I heard footsteps. Selene came back, catching me muttering a sigh. "You seem worried. What's the matter?"
I got my hands down in quick time, forcing a weak smile. "Nothing. Just... wondering where your mom is. Haven't seen her anywhere."
For the first time since we met, Selene’s friendly smile disappeared from her lips. "Oh, my mom. Um, she's… not here. I'll just say she got herself into a mess. Legal trouble. She can't come to the mating ceremony.”
"Legal trouble?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, arrested," she said casually, as if she wasn’t talking about her mother being in jail. "But don't worry, she's got some real good lawyers working her case. But she won't be making it here for the mating ceremony tomorrow."
I blinked, my eyes growing wide. "Sorry to hear all that. Must be so hard for you knowing she won’t be here for your big day. I know how important moms are… I feel bad knowing she will miss her daughter’s mating ceremony.”
A small smile adorned her lips. "If only you knew who she really is, you would not have said this.”
“What truth?" I asked.
Her smile dimmed again, growing into a grim sadness. "She's the reason you got pushed out with Dad. She is the reason you grew up in extreme poverty. Her hate for you and dad, is the reason we never got to see each other. Her pride ruined both of our childhoods.”
I stared back at her, absorbing her words-but my grief was deeper than I ever thought I’d feel. The same woman who I was worried for, is the same woman who made my father’s life hell, separated me from my family and made my whole childhood a living nightmare, the same woman who forced me into the arms of stripping.
Selene's eyes turned tender, and she gently tucked my hair behind my ear. "I'm sorry for all she did to you. You didn't deserve it. I want to undo it. I want you in my life. Even if it means I have to go against her.”
Words of absolute love and kindness only made me feel guiltier. Her innocence seemed to remind me of her ignorance to my dark secrets. She had no idea the man she was getting married to cheated on her, and not just with anyone…the same girl she is willing to fight with her mother for. The same girl she is opening her doors and arms for.
"Selene...thank you. It means so much to hear that I have a sister, and that too one who cares me about me so much. But…"
My throat felt tight again.
"...but I have a confession," I whispered out.
Liora POVThe photograph stays on my screen. My mother.Alive.Tied to a chair.Waiting for me.My first instinct is to move.To run.To find her.Because for years I imagined this moment.Meeting the woman who gave me life.Hearing her explanation.Asking why she left. But not like this. Not with a threat. Not with someone using her as a weapon against me.Darius immediately notices my reaction.“Liora.”I look at him.“She’s my mother.”My voice breaks.“I finally found her.”I pause.“And now someone is taking her away from me again.”I grab my jacket.“I’m going.”Darius immediately says:“No.”The word makes me freeze.Because the old anger rises. The feeling of someone deciding for me.But before I can react, he continues.“Not because I want to control you.”He pause.“Because whoever did this wants exactly that.”He points at the message.“They want you emotional. They want you alone.”I know he is right. And that scares me.Because even after everything…He understands me.Fo
Liora POVThe photograph is still in my hand.A woman holding me as a baby.A woman whose face I have never seen.A woman whose name I have never spoken.Elara Voss.My mother. The word feels strange.Almost unreal.Because for years, I lived with one painful belief. That nobody wanted me.Not my father. Not my family. Not the woman who gave birth to me.But now I am being told something impossible. She was alive. She knew about me.And somehow…She stayed away.My chest feels heavy.Because I do not know what hurts more.Finding out she abandoned me…Or finding out she might have had a reason.Darius notices the change in me immediately. The bond reacts before I even speak. He says my name softly.“Liora.”I look at him.“What if she left because she didn’t want me?”The question breaks something in him.I could see his expression.Because he knows what it feels like to carry the belief that you are unworthy of love.He says:“Don’t decide her reason before hearing the truth.”He pau
Liora POVThe room is silent.Too silent.Everyone is staring at the screen. The recording has ended, but the words remain.“Dr. Lucien.”The name feels impossible.Because Dr. Lucien was the person Darius trusted when nobody else could reach him.The person who helped him face his guilt. The person who taught him how to stop controlling everything. The person who encouraged him to become better. And now…He might be the person who has been destroying my life.I look at Darius. His expression is unreadable. But I know him.I know the difference between anger and pain. This is pain.Because this is not only a betrayal against me.It is a betrayal against him.Darius takes his phone. He watches the recording again.Once.Twice.Three times.Looking for something.Maybe a mistake.A manipulation.Anything.Finally, he lowers the phone.“No.”The word comes quietly. Not denial.Pain.“I know his voice.”He pause.“But I also know him.”I look at him.“Do you?”The question comes out hars
Liora POVThe name on the back of the photograph refuses to disappear.“Selene Blackwood.”.My sister. The person who found me.The person who gave me a home. The person who told me I was never a mistake.I keep staring at the handwriting.Waiting for something inside me to reject it.To tell me it is fake.A lie.Another manipulation. But my instincts tell me something else.Something hurts.Because if Selene knew…If she knew the truth about me from the beginning…Then every moment we shared suddenly feels different. The first hug.The first time she called me her sister. The way she looked at me like she had been waiting her entire life to meet me.Was it real?Or was it another secret I was never allowed to understand?I look at Adrian. My voice shakes.“Explain.”He does not immediately answer. And that makes me angry.“Explain why my sister’s name is on this.”Adrian takes a deep breath.“Because Selene was involved.”My heart drops.“Involved how?”He looks at the photograph.“
Liora POVThe document is still in my hands.I keep staring at the name. The name that is supposed to explain everything. The name that is supposed to answer why my entire life was built on secrets.“My half-brother.” I whispered to myself. The son who inherited everything. The son who had the family name, the wealth, the protection. The son who got the life I was never allowed to have.I look at Darius.“Are you sure?”My voice is barely above a whisper.Because accepting this means accepting something painful.Someone from my own blood wanted me gone.Darius does not rush to answer. He knows me well enough now to understand that I am not asking because I doubt him.I am asking because I am trying to survive the truth.“We’re still investigating.”He pause.“But everything points to him.”I lower the document. My entire life, I thought I was forgotten.I thought I was abandoned because I was a mistake. But now I am discovering something worse.I was remembered.I was watched. And som
Liora POV“Ravenna was the reason you survived.”The words keep replaying in my mind.I sat there frozen.Because everything I believed about Ravenna is suddenly uncertain. For years, I thought she hated me because I was proof of my father’s betrayal.I thought every cruel word.Every cold look.Every moment she made me feel like I didn’t belong…Was because she blamed me.But now Adrian is telling me something different.Something impossible. That Ravenna protected me.That she knew the truth. And that she kept a secret that shaped my entire life.I look at Darius. He is watching me carefully. Not demanding answers.Just waiting. The way I asked him to.And somehow, that makes the confusion even heavier.Because the people I trusted hurt me.And the person I hated might have saved me.I call Adrian back. This time, Darius stays beside me.Not taking over.Just present.I ask the question that has haunted me my entire life.“Why did my father hide me?”The silence on the other end las
Liora's POVI couldn’t forget what Ravenna said; my mind kept thinking about what she said in the suite before leaving. She would rather not dwell much on that thought; Darius is now her past, and I need to focus on my present. I went to my motel room and counted the cash; it’s enough to get me
Darius POVGetting up from the bed to bed was like working through hell. Life has been crazy since Liora left the house. I feel total emptiness, though I didn't give my staff that impression. I don’t need any self-pity or pitiful glances. I tried functioning only through appearance. Work continu
Liora POVI didn't respond immediately; I stared at her for a while. I wasn’t expecting to hear it from her. Definitely not now. You could see the shock on my face after hearing all that from her. The apology is too unstable for me to accept and too late to reject outrightly. It hangs between us
Several days later, Liora left the mansion, Darius still grieving about his loss and everything that happened. He became distant from everyone; the staff understood the situation and how much he was suffering and gave him all the distance he needed and avoided disturbing him.Days passed by, and D
