Autumn Gene had to be the biggest nerd in the history of nerds. In three whole years of college, he had never once stepped inside a real college party. He had heard the stories of how they were loud, chaotic, and ridiculously fun, but they always felt like legends from another world.

He pressed two fingers to his forehead for the sixth time that night, silently willing a fever to appear and rescue him. Behind him, Allison suddenly spun around, planted both hands on his shoulders, and leaned in close.

“Don’t even think about faking a fever to get out of this one,” she whispered, her voice carrying a clear warning. Try something smart and I’ll end you.

Autumn sighed, accepting defeat. Pissing off Allison tonight was not an option. She had spent weeks planning this, even curating multiple outfits until she found the perfect one. In her words, he needed to look like “a cutie pie who’s ready to get down.” He stood up and moved to the full-length mirror in the corner of her luxurious bedroom.

The reflection staring back at him felt like a stranger. Instead of his usual oversized hoodies and baggy jeans, he wore a fitted black net top that showed off more skin than he was comfortable with, paired with sleek leather pants that hugged his curves. Light makeup, subtle eyeliner and gloss, completed the look. He actually looked like he belonged.

“Sweetie, you look absolutely breathtaking,” Allison said, stepping behind him and gently patting down a stray lock of his hair. “Isn’t it really late already?” he tried again, his voice sheepish. “We should probably sit this one out.”

Allison smirked. “The good parties don’t even start until nine, and the best ones? You don’t show up until eleven.” Her coy smile told him she wasn’t backing down. This was the first time she had successfully dragged him out, and she had come too far to quit now.

She tilted her head toward the door with a reassuring smile. Autumn gave himself one final look in the mirror, muttered a quiet “I can’t believe I’m doing this,” and patted his pockets: phone, emergency cash, house keys, lip gloss, and mints. He had already checked them nine times.

After locking up Allison’s apartment, they walked a short distance to where her chauffeur waited with the car door open. “After you, your sexiness,” she teased. The playful jab coaxed a genuine smile from him, easing some of his nerves.

The drive was short. Soon they pulled up to a sleek club pulsing with bass. One of the rich kids on campus had thrown the party, and of course, Allison had scored an invite. She was practically vibrating with excitement that her best friend had finally agreed to try something new.

Autumn took hesitant steps toward the entrance while Allison practically skipped ahead. Crowds didn’t scare him, but loud, chaotic ones packed with billionaire heirs? That was a different story. He had always kept his head down on campus as the poor scholarship kid, avoiding attention. It was ironic that his closest friend was loaded, though Allison wasn’t exactly a social butterfly herself. She only attended these events occasionally.

The moment they stepped inside, the heat hit him like a wave. A sea of young, wasted bodies moved under flashing lights. Sweaty skin, clouds of smoke, and the sharp scent of alcohol filled the air. Upstairs, couples danced and made out shamelessly. Downstairs, groups played rowdy drinking games while others ground against each other with zero shame. It was exactly what he had imagined.

“Great, Ally. You did it. My first party ever,” Autumn said, voice tight with nerves. “Can we go now?”

“Nope. We haven’t even gotten drinks yet,” she shot back, determination written all over her face.

She grabbed his hand and pulled him through the crowd toward the bar. “Two tequila shots, please,” she called to the bartender, whose back was turned.

When he faced them, his eyes locked immediately on Autumn, tracing the sheer net top with obvious interest. Autumn felt suddenly exposed, heat rising in his cheeks.

“That’ll be all for now,” Allison said, practically shooing the bartender away after he served them.

Autumn scanned the room while they waited. He spotted a few guys from his classes, people he had never spoken to. When the shots arrived, the bartender’s gaze returned, lingering. Autumn’s fingers tightened around the cold glass. Allison nudged his shoulder, urging him on.

He glanced back at the bartender, who was now serving a group of girls but still managed to flash Autumn a quick wink. Flustered, Autumn downed the shot in one go. The burn spread through his chest, quickly turning into a warm buzz.

Allison grinned, clearly proud of how the outfit highlighted his figure in those leather pants. “See? You’re already turning heads.”

He tried to play it cool, but inside, he was a mess, his stomach flipping, his heart racing. They took four more rounds in quick succession. The alcohol settled warmly in his veins, making the music feel louder, the lights brighter. He decided that was enough if he wanted to keep any dignity.

Allison had already started dancing with two girls she had just met, waving him over to join them. In his head, he was moving effortlessly as they did during their silly sleepover dance parties. In reality, he stood frozen, fidgeting with his rings and rubbing his fingers together.

He couldn’t keep up the awkward pose forever. The drinks were pressing on his bladder. “Be right back,” he mouthed to Allison, pointing toward where he hoped the bathrooms were.

Too nervous to ask for directions, he wandered on his own. Down a dimly lit hallway, he found only couples pressed against walls, lost in heated make-outs. No restrooms. With a sigh, he headed for the staircase, climbing robotically, one hand gripping the railing.

The music grew deafening upstairs. He immediately regretted not bringing earplugs. “Fucking great,” he muttered, leaning against the cool wall to steady himself. The alcohol, combined with the throbbing bass, left him dazed and flushed.

Then it happened. A whisper brushed against his ear, so close it felt real. He whipped around.

His heart slammed against his ribs. He stumbled backward, eyes wide with fear, lips quivering, hands shaking violently.

“Dad?!”

Over the next couple of days, Autumn assumed his official position as Vegas' lap dog, much to the notice of about half the campus and much to his dismay. He would dart to stores, his faculty, and the cafe between classes, accidentally knocking himself down a few times. He barely had any time left between that and his schoolwork, now growing accustomed to passing out on his bed the moment he touched it when he finally shut off his laptop.Sometimes, Vegas would act as though he were a decent human being, even patting his head whenever he made one of his deliveries, causing the rumor to go wild. While other times, it seemed as though he was trying to mess him up more aggressively, eyes glaring as if Autumn had done something gravely wrong. On one occasion, Vegas had tossed a cup of bubble tea at his arm, grumbling about him mixing up the flavor, causing the brown liquid to spill all over his plain white shirt, the dribble hitting the floor comically.“That’s gotta stick,” someone yelled

  • Owned By His Obsession    Chapter 29

It was supposed to have been like any other day. Just heading to class, his backpack slung over one arm while tucking the large sketchbook under his arm, a strand of hair or two slightly falling over his face.Today, however, had been different.Autumn stared out of the car at the students in little clusters at the front of the building, some checking out the boards pasted on the wall.He was one long breath away from possibly choking, the thought of gaining more attention putting him in fight or flight mode. But he didn't react all that much, not outwardly anyway.“Thanks for the ride,” he managed, sparing only a glance at Vegas, who'd been driving silently the whole time, which somehow seemed to make him more nervous.Even more annoying, he didn't even give a fucking reply.Autumn stepped out of the car quickly, walking past several people before deciding to stick to the corner after almost bumping into someone.By the time he got to the entrance, he suddenly turned back, his head d

  • Owned By His Obsession    Chapter 28

Autumn lay awake on his new, unfamiliar bed, the silk sheets not bringing much comfort as he kept tossing around. The room was quiet except for the low hum of the AC.Sure, he wouldn’t say his tiny room with the old paint and loud bangs coming from some rooms on his floor had been heaven, but he longed for the feeling of independence he’d had until now.The new space just wasn’t his and would never be, so it was proving hard to make do with it.He ran a hand over his pajamas, trying to activate some feeling of actual warmth in the almost too-cool room.He looked around the dimly lit room, taking in the hours spent on arrangements. His books and sketchbooks were neatly laid out on the large desk, with a laptop beside them, along with a few building models at the end, resting against the wall. The closet hadn’t even been filled up to a tenth after folding and hanging all his clothes and other personal items, testing out the robes that’d been provided a bit too languidly. He couldn’t eve

Vegas was already seated at the dining table when Autumn came downstairs, Aaron heading toward the door as soon as he walked in.The air was thick with the rich, savory smell of grilled steak and roasted garlic. Warm, buttery bread sat in a basket, its golden crust still steaming slightly. The faint sweetness of caramelized onions and herbs mixed with the sharp tang of red wine that Vegas had already poured into two glasses. The plates looked expensive—heavy, white ceramic that clinked loudly as they were set on the table, the middle-aged chef also heading outwards.“Well, don’t just stand there,” Vegas grumbled, voice low and flat. He didn’t look up at first. He kept cutting into his steak, the knife sliding through the meat with a soft hiss, juices pooling dark and glossy on the plate.Autumn pulled out a chair, settling down stiffly. The wooden chair felt cold and hard. ‘I shouldn’t be here. I shouldn’t be sitting at his table like this is normal. Like I belong to him.’ The thought

The next day came too fast. Autumn stood outside his dorm with a single duffel bag, the strap digging into his shoulder, and a red traveling box on his right. The black car pulled up right on time. “2 sharp,” Vegas had texted earlier, along with a smug sticker, much to his annoyance. The driver took his bags without a word and opened the door. Autumn climbed in, heart heavy, the anguish of being situated right under his nose burning into his mind, filling him with all sorts of crazy thoughts. “What if he chokes me in my sleep?” he mumbled, looking at the front mirror in case the driver had heard him, hoping not to come off as deluded. He had packed only essentials: clothes, sketchbooks, a laptop, a charger, and a couple of personal items from his mom. Everything else hadn't seemed all that necessary, resolving to stop by for them whenever. The drive felt short compared to last time, his thoughts racing the whole time. When the elevator doors opened into the penthouse, Autumn step

Julian kept going, casual as ever. The conversation dragged on. He asked about Autumn’s favorite classes, what he thought of the clubs on campus, and even joked about how hard it must be to balance social life with the architecture workload.Autumn answered in short, awkward sentences, shifting on his feet, eyes darting to Vegas every few seconds.Vegas shot him a flat look. "Why are you talking so much?"Julian grinned. "Because one of us has to. You look like you're about three seconds away from committing a felony."Autumn almost choked. For a moment, the tension eased. Almost. Vegas didn't laugh. His gaze slid back to Autumn immediately, intense enough to make his stomach knot. Julian noticed."Oh." The grin slowly slipped from his face. "Oh, you two were in the middle of something.""We're leaving," Vegas said.Autumn stiffened.Julian raised an eyebrow. "That wasn't a suggestion, was it?""No.""Right."An awkward silence followed. Julian looked between them, clearly trying to f

  • Owned By His Obsession    Chapter 20

Vegas stayed up all night, staring at the ceiling in his huge bedroom. He counted the little square designs in the recessed lighting, trying to push the image out of his head. The king-sized bed felt too big and empty. The silk sheets were cool but did nothing to calm him down.He had tried everyth

Autumn was panting by the time he reached his next class, having sprinted all the way from Vegas’s block. Sweat plastered his shirt to his back, and the sun had only made things worse—his face flushed, dripping.“Come on, Cedric, the professor’s already inside,” someone called. Autumn wiped his for

  • Owned By His Obsession    Chapter 3

“Autumn! There you are!” Allison’s voice cut through the pulsing noise of the party with a tipsy hiccup. She pushed her way through the dense crowd, her eyes glassy from several drinks but bright with obvious relief the moment they landed on her best friend. She exhaled deeply, placing both hands on

  • Owned By His Obsession    Chapter 2

“Dad?!” Autumn cried, his voice shaking as if a gun were pressed to his head. He stumbled backward, eyes wide with terror. “Is that really you? How’d you find me?” The shadowy figure stepped closer, reaching for his arm. Autumn crouched down instinctively, bracing for the worst. How is this even po
